Endy was a great defensive outfielder that contributed far more to the Mets fortunes than any of us could have imagined at the time of his acquisition. He was a valuable role player coming off the Mets bench.

I always liked Endy and wish him all the best in the future. He'll live on in Mets 'lore because of the catch.

But anyway, despite not being very productive (especially recently), he was one of my favorite Mets. That being said, I am not heartbroken to see him go.

I'll miss Endy, an underrated player who plays such incredible D, that he only needs to hit a smidge over replacement to give league average production.

I have a fond memory of a two-run homer on May 18, 2007 against the MFYs. Was the difference in the game; Mets won 3-2 and were down 2-1 at the time. He hit it off Pettitte, pulled it straight down the line and into the loge seats near the right field foul pole.

I can't not like him but it seems like every other Met fan out there had anointed him Mookie status.

If the Mets had won it all in '06 perhaps I could have been persuaded to think of him in that way but as it is I never did.

Good player, filled in adequately when needed, great catch.

One of the differences between 2006 and 2007 was the Endy factor. Endy was everywhere in '06, not just deep left with a glove over the wall. In '07, after getting hurt, he wasn't the same. As I sat in the Upper Deck during the final Friday night game against the Marlins (the one when Ollie couldn't keep it together), I wondered why Willie wasn't using Endy. I learned he was in Venezuela for the funeral of his sister and was missing the rest of the regular season. Very sad, of course, and very telling, I thought. No Endy, no playoffs.

Hard to remember that I used to associate this guy with absolutely annihilating us as an Expo. Hit .364 versus the Mets when he wore a funny M on his cap. There was a series in late '02 at Shea when every time I turned around, he was on base, particularly the Esix Snead Game, if any of y'all remember that one. It took him about two minutes to make me forget he had ever been anything but a Met.

I read around the time they handed out his bobblehead that he was tired of being asked about The Catch, but I never saw him do anything but smile and answer appreciatively. At least two different "acts" went on "Mets Weekly" and performed tributes to Endy, one a song, the other a beat poem. On both occasions (same piece of video), Endy responded, "Thanks for the song, guys."

Thanks for the catch, Endy. And everything else.

Sometimes a player does that one thing, at the most crucial of times, and he wins a Hall Of Fame spot in your heart and mind, forever.

Who here didn't leap from their seat at the sight of the catch, yelling " DID YOU SEE THAT! CAN YOU F'N BELIEVE THAT! DID YOU JUST SEE THAT FREAKIN CATCH!?", or something similar?

It ended up being the last climax of a very exciting season, something I took with me and cherished through that long winter.

Yea, I'm a simple man.

I remember thinking, "uh-oh... HOLY CRAP!" But I disagree with the notion that you have to be a blind optimist to be a true Mets fan. But that's a discussion for another thread...

What I'll remember is that it wasn't even his best catch. It might have been the most spectacular, at the most crucial of moments, but my favorite Endy catches are the ones headed toward the gap, where you curse the moment it's hit, only to find that when the camera switches to the outfielders, Endy is already tracking it making you wonder if he got his jump before the batter started his swing. The way he would catch in stride with that glove that appeared bigger than his head. He also had a cannon for an arm. If I remember correctly, he gunned down A-Rod in that famous Friday night 2006 game against the MFY's.
