Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I'll trade an out for a run there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 The two outs this inning are about 350ft each. The two hits add up to about 75

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 This was about the 10th game in the last 2 months where a Santana start has begun with the label of; 'this is the type of game we got him for' - and he's pitched well in all of them.

But the Mets are in a much better position than if they had lost tonight's game.I'm going to bed very content tonight.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Santana would likely be a contender for the Cy Young if the bullpen hadn't squandered numerous potential wins. He is sporting an ERA of 2.00 for the season at Shea.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I went to the game with two friends and the mom of one of my friends. It was a great Ladies Night at Shea - lots of cheering and not too much nail biting. A good win
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 AG/DC - "I'll trade a division for a Cy Young anytime."I feel pretty confident that Santana would as well.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Meant to say that I'll take a division.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Went to the game as well. Extremely satisfying to see the Mets get Hamels.Tons of moronic Philly fans in the upper level. I *was* encouraged that for the most part, the response to them was to simply do the "Let's Go Mets!" chant even louder.Funny story: the seats that I picked up for the game -- front row of the upper deck -- were the same exact two seats that we had for NLCS Game 7 in '06. I now consider the seats sufficently exorcised.Things I'll miss about Shea -- emphasized this game: the upper deck shaking during the big moments of a big game.

I didn't watch my tape of the ESPN broadcast yet to see if we were shown on TV but we brought the "K" cards for Johan.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 took my 7-year old son, despite it being a "school nite". perfect nite... great seats, great weather, and a Mets win. He learned to keep score, he asked me if Reyes was a "good 2-strike hitter" (answer: no), he didn't whine for souvinirs or more food (like his sister), he was totally into the game. This is the first time it was just him and me... he's been to a few games before, but always with the whole family. I think I've started something. Oh, and he even asked me why the crowd was cheering "MVP" for Delgado. I explained to him that, despite the fact that his numbers are inferior to teammate Wright in nearly every way, and that unlike Wright, Delgado played like crap for the 1st half of the season, that many fans think Delgado is the team's most valuable player because he's had a great 2nd half, while Wright has been fading. He said "well, David's probably tired now because he's played the whole year, while Delgado has only played 1/2 a year." I told my son he had a very good point. ** note: this particular father/son conversation is entirely fictional and has been included solely for the purpose of agenda advancement.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I was at both games. It felt like the longest fucking day of my life. And I mean that in a very good way.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 My wife and I took the kids last night. A buddy of mine had a Diamond View Suite, so we figured it would be a relatively easy way to go to the game with a 7 week old baby. And we wanted to get her to Shea before it closed its doors. She didn't seem impressed. Just slept, and nursed, and cried as if we were at home.My son (just turned 3) loved it though. He waved his arms in excitement the entire bottom of the first. He's at the point now that when he hears that familiar three-part beat, he knows to chant "Let's Go Mets!"(The MVP confused him, he continued to chant "Let's go Mets" anyway. At least, I think he was confused, unless he's been talking to Norrin's son and trying to make a statement). He didn't seem to like the luxury box though. He kept pointing out to the crowd saying "Dada, let's go there." I missed Delgado's second HR because he had to pee. The only down part was that he was really looking forward to singing "Take me Out to the Ballgame" but instead they had some kid playing a banjo or something. Stupid move by the Mets. You can't take that away from a crowd. I felt bad for the kid because he got booed but, you know, it sucked. Lazy Mary was still fun though.

Sorry the kid was booed, but he was boo-worthy.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 It was Greek Night.... the kid was playing the balilaika (a Greek mandolin). I was sitting near him. His playing was fine, but the mike was causing feedback and they didn't get a decent sound level til halfway thru the song. But even if it had gone off without a hitch, it was still a stupid idea. on edit: and what about me C-Mom... you didn't want to say hello to me? Just CF? just cuz he's got a cute little baby? well, the heck with both of ya.
