The Yankees have announced that he will be their starting pitcher this Saturday.

OK, so once everyone sees him, who will be the next missing person to be seen?

Amelia Earhart?
Jimmy Hoffa?
Elvis?

AND
When he finally strides in from his bullpen warmups to take the mound, what music should be played?

Money For Nothing?

What would you suggest?

Pardon me for being excited, but this opportunity comes around about as often as a Presidential election.

Later

Not that I have much sympathy for the guy -- who was the biggest bust for sure of the Benson Bunch -- but hasn't 90% of his missed time been due to TJ surgery? Nothing jakey about that.

Did you ever post final scores on the Benson Bunch?

The last year and a half or so have been due to TJ surgery, but prior to that there were several bouts of minor injuries and concocted stories around them and info withheld from the team which prompted the rep of being a malingerer. Even some of his teammates took the rare stance of publically saying he wasn't working hard enough to get back on the field.

Suing his former agent because his 4yr/$39.99 mil contract wasn't the $40mil he was promised also tends to give the idea that you're only in it for the Monet.

Found this on MSNBC.com:

]Yankees Pavano moving to Mets
Carl Pavano has had a crummy four years with the Yankees and that could be coming to an end incredibly soon. Word is the Yanks put him on waivers after he won the August 23 game against Baltimore a high spot in his lousy Bronx career and the Mets, in the midst of an intense division race with the Phillies and Marlins, could end up picking up Pavano, especially since John Maine is likely done for the year. The sticking point is supposedly how much of the $3.78 million left on Pavano's contract the folks in the House that Ruth Built will pay. (New York Post)

PAVANO AVAILABLE TO OTHER TEAMS AFTER ONE START
By GEORGE A. KING III

Could "The Idle" be moving?

Carl "American Idle" Pavano is scheduled to start tomorrow night against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium - unless another team wants him.

The Post has learned Pavano was put on waivers within the last 24 hours and available to be claimed and then traded if the Yankees find a match.
Pavano, who returned to the big leagues last Saturday in Baltimore after being out since April of last year because Tommy John surgery on the right elbow, is in the final season of a four-year, $40 million deal.

The Yankees are dead in the AL East race - they are 10 games back of the Rays - and are seven lengths behind the Red Sox in the wild-card chase with 30 games to go. They would be wise to see what they could get for Pavano before he leaves via free agency when the Yankees don't pick up a $13 million option.

With John Maine a strong possibility to be done for the season because of a shoulder problem, the Mets might be interested in Pavano if the Yankees agree to pick up some of the $3.78 million left on the contract. There is approximately $1.83 million remaining this year and a $1.95 million buyout on his contract.

In order to be eligible for the postseason a player has to be with a team before Sept. 1.
Infielder Cody Ransom joined Pavano on waivers.

I'm a little more concerned with the John Maine part of the report.

If MSNBC had been just a little more sloppy while writing that report they would have announced it as a straight-up Maine for Pavano trade.

2 disabled list assignments for the same shoulder within a month pretty much says "done for the year" to me. Especially since chatter about an injury with him had dated as far back as pre-All-Star Break, and especially since maine seems like the kind of guy determined not to go to the DL unless he's dying.

]Ben Grimm: Maine is "iffy"

George King: Maine is"a strong possibility to be done for the season."

MSNBC.com: Maine "is likely done for the year."
Key differences. I'd say the first suggest a 50% chance of missing the season, the second a 70% chance, and the third a 90% chance. They are also one using season and the other using year --- big difference.

How funny would it be if Pavano sucked all this time for the Yankees, then was lights out in September and October for the Mets?

ON EDIT: Do we still have Tony Armas Jr.? If so, we would have all the pieces of that trade that sent Pedro to the Red Sox.

That would make MFY fans crawl into the Stadium as it was being imploded. I would take Pavano and watch him help the Mets win a division title. That would kick ass.
