stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 The only magic number that should be the Mets, and Mets fans concern is 1/2.Oh, and a few more, 5 games in 13 days against the Phills, sandwiched around a pesky (when playing the Mets) Marlin squad, and the WC leading Brewers.A lot of work to be done to be worrying about what the number to win the divisional title is.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I'm guessing it was an Art Howe-era road BP jersey.I'm more curious about him wearing a flapless helmet during BPCouldn't Rawlings have gotten their brand on his forearem a couple of more times?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 ="Fman99"]What the hell uniform is that? I don't remember blue with the white "New York" font on the front...That's an excellent question. I pondered it myself when I first posted that picture. Piazza's wearing a pre-game batting practice uniform, that I was certain until I saw that picture, that was only worn from 1995-97 when the Mets went back to a modernized version of their original uniforms (with uni #'s on the front).I though they ditched those warmups in '98 when they added black. I have a picture of Al Leiter wearing that bluer warmup, but it's from Spring Training. So I always assumed that the Mets wore their 95-97 warmups in Spring Training of '98 and waited until the regular season to unveil their black unis and black warmups. But that Piazza picture kills that theory because, as you know, Piazza was still a Dodger during Spring Training of '98.By the way, it appears that we'll never get to see this number on this threadas the upcoming series with the Phils will guarantee odd numbers here for a while.

If you look closely at the sleeve logo, you can see the little "NY" superimposed on the skyline, on the left side of the logo. It removed between the 1998 and 1999 seasons.

Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 For the record, I'm guessing it's a 1998 BP jersey, maybe 1999 if someone goofed up and put the old sleeve patch on it.

They might be real shadows, though. This is the jersey (1995-98):
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Looking through Getty, it seems to be the 1999 road BP jerseys.Dated January 1, 2000 along with a bunch of other File Photo-type deals from the prior season. And yes, they are drop shadows. The black was added to the Mets scheme in 1998, so the ones you posted naturally aren't going to have them. But both angles on the Piazza photos show a pretty distinct drop-shadow, as does what I'd have to assume is the home version of that jersey.Dated March, 1999.
