Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 The wife and I want to paint our 3 year old son's bedroom with the official colors of the Mets -- one orange wall and three blue ones. Unfortunately Home Depot, the "official" paint company of MLB, doesn't have any specific colors in their catalogs for any MLB teams. Which is pathetic.Anyone know how I can get interior paint to match the official Mets blue and orange? Any help is much appreciated. The guy on the phone there suggested I bring in an object (non-fabric) for them to try and match the paint to that object. But I don't know what would be a good object to bring... all of mine seem to be metallic (which reflects) or fabric (shirts, hats, etc.)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Bring in a Mets scorecard or yearbook that has a large image of the official logo.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 You could just kick the Home Depot guy in the ****.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 That's not as effective as you want it to be.One of the companies has officially licensed team colors -- I've seen the ads. I think it's Home Depot that has the paint, but it could be Lowe's.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Bring Mr. Met with you to the paint store
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 yeah, unfortunately, the glidden team colors dealie that home depot does doesn't include the mlb, though it does have college, mls, nhl, nfl teams and nascar. so you could luck out and find that one of those teams stole the mets colors...or buy some fancy mets merchandise to bring in for the matching...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 That blue looks kind of dark.It may match the brim on the black and blue cap, but I think it's darker than the all-blue.And hasn't the shade of blue changed? Maybe it's just me, but the cap looks brighter today than it did during the Seaver/Koosman days.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 ="OlerudOwned"]Official swatches from ssur.orgI agree with grimm.I think that blue is a little dark, although I've seen that one used a lot in online images of the Met logo and team jersey/hat.I do a lot of Met image work, and to my eye this blue I swatched up is more a real Met blue.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I think that the blue the Olerud posted might be a match for the caps from around 1970.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I used to have an official MLB style guide from which I gleaned "Mets blue" to be on this page, search for "003EB3" It also appears "darker" than I think it is but it may be an illusion.http://color.ssve.ru/xxxxb3Uh, don;t search, here it is:http://color.ssve.ru/003eb3
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 You guys rock. Thanks for the help.I'll be sure to post pictures once we get the room painted.

Whatever item I use to match has to be flat in sheen and non-reflective, but also shouldn't be fabric which is not fully opaque. So that rules out all of my stuff basically.I wonder if printouts of these colored squares are flat enough. They may have to do.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Here are the original colors:
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 ="RealityChuck"]Here are the original colors:That orange looks a bit pale to me...
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I have it on good authority that the orange is Pantone 1655 C (same as the Orioles, incidentally). Not sure about the blue.
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Looks like the blue might be Pantone 288, though that's from by no means as definitive a source.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Web safe color chart colors are a strange thing. Even then it depends on monitors and video cards. Discussing what looks right on a screen betweenus is a moot point, but that's just my opinion.
