stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Lets go old school and put Santana or Maine out there to finish this one!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 i'm not against using starters in relief when it helps the team, but in a 7-0 game it would be pretty foolish to put Santana on the mound, it would be like putting your starting position players into the game in a blowout instead of taking them out of it.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Yep. Mop up time. Put whomever is the last man in the pen out there. Give everyone else one more day off.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Let's see if he can get his first complete game and shutout instead.Goes 3-0 on on Kshansla;sdkfhay.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Darling was saying the other day that Seaver told him, as they briefly crossed paths during their Metdom, to always volunteer for Sunday before ASG duty as he (GTS) vultured up a handful of wins that way over the years.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I love the way Pelfrey is responding to getting all these runs , just dealing he is.

Keep 'em on ice!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Pelfrey, at 114 pitches and with 2 on, will face another batter. thats a rarity today and i like it.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Another dominant turn by the Big Pelf.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I doubt he'd take that curtain call if he hadn't already heard that his day was done.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Great pitching performance from Pelfrey. He is finally starting to become the pitcher the Mets had projected him to become when they drafted him out of Wichita State.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I'm so glad he was kept out of the Santana deal.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Joe Smith = Closer in training? And Jon is wrong, the Beatles' final performance was in San Francisco, I think.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Listened to the WFAN broadcast for most of the game while coming home on the LIRR.I could definitely detect a true excitement in Howie's voice, talking about how Delgado's homer reminded him of Strawberry, or how the last 9-game winning streak for the Mets was in 2000 -- the last year the Mets won the pennant, of course. As referenced by Edgy, he had a great story about Jane Jarvis playing her entire repertoire (including Christmas songs) during the in-game blackout that happened 31 years ago tonight.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Wow. This pitching we have been seeing is just a trip.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Beautiful!I'm almost sad the break is here because I want to keep the momentum going!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Jane Jarvis.Wow, thats a name I haven't heard in 20 years or so.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Hey I was at this game tonight. Very lively crowd. first-inning 3-run homers are the best. Go Mets!
