Easley:
1-7-.209, .250 OBP in 67 ABs.
Signed through 2008.

Anderson:
1-3-.196, .229 OBP in 46 ABs.
Signed through 2009.

Chavez:
0-0-.170, .235 OBP in 47 ABs.
Signed through 2009.

Castro:
1 for 8 in the 3 games he's played since coming off the DL.
Signed through 2009.

Pagan was solid -- .275 AVG/.346 OBP and 13 RBIs; 8 of his 25 hits for extra bases -- but most of that was done as an everyday player. We could use him back real fast.

Sure looks like those 2 year contracts to the bench guys were not such great ideas.

Tony Clark. There's a guy who looks good on a bench.

(I wonder what my designation will have to offer.)

And if Church goes on the DL for 15 days, who gets his playing time?

I'm somewhat tempted to give Fernando Martinez a taste of honey for a couple of weeks (like they did with Milledge a couple of years ago) but last I heard, Martinez was injured as well.

Hopefully Pagan is ready to come back. He's the best alternative.

The Easley signing didn't bother me because it expires at the end of this season.

But the Anderson and Chavez deals were perplexing to me. Bench guys should all be on one year deals, IMHO, to keep them motivated to stay in the bigs.

I think Castro has just not yet had enough ABs to warm up. And Pagan -- who knows what he'll do. It seems a reach to think he'll go back to being the guy he was the first 3 weeks of the year but I've been wrong before.

How about Willie not taking the effort to get them into the lineup once a week unless (like Pagan and Easley) they're needed to replace an injured guy.

Not a real big factor IMO. These guys are supposed to be ready when the bell rings. That's why they're bench guys.

The big mistake was Omar's in failing to turn the earth for fresh bench guys and instead betting big on repeat performances from guys who'd already flunked out of everyday playing status and are only getting older.

Yeah even with all the injuries to regulars Chavez and Anderson have had little playing time .

Ding-ding-ding! That's my big beef with Omar too.

I'm going to stay on Willie here. For one, his challenge is in the present tense. Omar's assemblage is in the past --- Val Pascucci and Abraham Nunez excepted.
