Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Wright's error makes it 10-0 Pirates.Shall we just invoke the Mercy Rule and call it a day?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 We were at the park the other day and there was a girl's softball game going on, and one team scored 6 runs and then had to take the field even though they'd not made 3 outs. An interesting variation on the mercy rule I'd not seen before.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 In 1999, there was a 16-0 shutout loss to the Braves. I think that's our worst shutout shellacking.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 The defense isn't doing him any favors, but Sosa is still rapidly moving himself into danger of being released whenever they decide Wise is ready to come back.Smith's job looks safer each time Jorge throws a pitch.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Holy crap!I just got out of a meeting and checked the score for the first time.Yeesh!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Who had Delgado in the hitting streak contest?

Part of the strategy in making up a lineup was to figure out how you would score 6 runs as often as possible which meant spreading your "outs" throughout the lineup.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 For this game today maybe we should have a position player pitch the ninth. I nominate Marlon Anderson.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Yeah the Snooze raised the possibility of Wise replacing Soso even before today's beatdown. Not clear who the long guy is at that point but that's a minor concern I suppose. The way things look perhaps Figgy is destined to be the long guy and Vargas or someone like him, takes' Ollie's job in the rote.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 No, he's just been awful this year... and I was thinking ahead.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 Would you not want to keep Figgi in the rotation , he's been good so far.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Figgy's the one most likely to be displaced by Pedro, whenever he finally returns. That is, unless Oliver Perez gets Zitoed.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Eh. You know, anyone, even young Aaron Heilman, even 40-year-old David Cone, can have a great start in the cold weather agisnt a bad team and gain a lotta early season momentum. I mean, Figgy's performances are looking more and more like that which you'd expect to see from a journeyman.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Zitoed? You mean win a Cy Young Award at a young age? That would be awesome.Yeah, I know it's not what you mean, but a boy can dream.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Yeah. I'd rather see him (Figueroa) as a long reliever than as a regular starter. And based on his last three starts, Oliver Perez is welcome to leave via free agency at his earliest convenience.I'm sure he'll be better than he's been, but I won't mourn his departure if that's how it plays out.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 (edited) I'm hoping that missed extra point comes back to haunt the Steelers. Edited April 30, 2008 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Figgy as long-man is his most likely eventual destination IMO.And if he has to remain in the rotation it probably means we've got bigger problems than just him.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 I agree that Figgi ends up in the pen at some point, and certainly I don't think he's going to turn into a great pitcher but all things staying the same he gets how many more starts before Pedro gets back or some other moves get made , 3 , 4 5?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 This is a nice low-pressure spot to get Heilman an inning.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Jorge Sosa is not very good.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Willie's using his reserves as pinch hitters when he should be using them to get his stars out of the game.Let Wright and Beltran sit out the last few innings.

They've sucked for a week or more. Use this blowout to punish 'em, I say.
