Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 ... on candy.]Yankees go the healthy route in clubhouseSo it has come to this in New York: You can't get a Baby Ruth in the clubhouse that was home to Babe Ruth. New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi has banned candy and ice cream in an effort to create a more healthy diet.Furthermore, the Journal News of Westchester County reported that the Yankees asked opposing teams to remove the offending items from the visitors' clubhouse before the team arrives. In Tampa Bay, the candy was replaced with nuts, dried fruit and granola, hardly an inspiring rhyme scheme for "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" ( . . . Buy me some peanuts, dried fruit and granola, I don't care if I ever go hoo-ma?).Yankees players, meanwhile, were seen smuggling banned items (candy bars, not steroids) into the clubhouse. It all leads to one important question: If the Yankees announce the hiring of Craig, will it be Roger or Jenny?Source: Los Angeles Times
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Baby Ruth wasn't named after the Babe, but after Grover Cleveland's daughter.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Well, that line was tied for fourth in the weakest bit of failed cleverness in the article.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 That's idiotic. Let the grown men eat candy and grow beards if they want.Forget playing for the Yankees, I would never want to work there if they can't treat people like adults.I mean, unless they payed me lots of money.

Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 They say False! in the head, but in the article they say maybe yes, maybe no.
Guest vtmet Guests Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 After Willie sees this article, he'll probably ban players from drinking coffee...It's stupid enough that Giraldi wants candy banned from the Yanks area, but the visitors clubhouse as well? What is he a tree hugging pre-school teacher? On edit, I misread the visitor clubhouse part...I thought that it implied the visitor clubhouse at Yankme stadium, not the visitor clubhouse when the Yanks are the visitors...my bad, but it still is a bit of a power trip by the manager...
