Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Huge array of transactions for a Met team looking to reload any way they can. This team is missing their Clendenon and their Agee. That's a lot of pressure on Cleon Jones, so to speak.6/22/09Assigned to St Lucie for RehabPurchased from BuffaloRecalled from BuffaloDesignated for AssignmentStarting PitchersRelief PitchersMainePerezDessensMischRobertsonOptioned to BuffaloDesignated for AssignmentAssigned to 15-Day Disabled ListRecalled from BuffaloRelief PitchersInfieldersOutfieldersTakahashiValdezBeltranF. duan Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 does everyone else think it's kinda cool and ballsy going with only 5 guys with infield gloves. I love the idea that we may have a game where Sheff does a few innings at first or something like that.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Well, I'm never keen on overdosing on relief pitchers, but I guess Argenis will replace Misch or Switzer in a couple of days. Meantime, I guess Reed or Sheffield can fake it at first. How many days do you really think they'll go with Tatis as their only backup at short and second?Meanwhile, Cora is playing through a fracture.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Actually, what's Cleon up to? He's not much older than Sheff.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Nice quote from the intrepid Mr. Cora on recent roster issues, courtesy of Cerrone...The Mets current 25man roster will earn roughly $60 million this season, or around the same level as the Rays, Orioles and Twins. We can deal with this. Were not as bad as people think we are, Alex Cora said last night, according to MLB.com. Dont feel sorry for the Metropolitans.Referring to his own team as the "Metropolitans" is balls ass cool.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 If Reyes went down last year, we'd've had Damion Easley filling in.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 i've heard repeatedly from Minaya and others that Cora is a real asset in the clubhouse. Not that i wouldn't prefer to have, you know, like a good player in that position, but he's not bad, and if he brings that dimension too, well that's cool.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Yeah, I'm sure Easley was a cluhouse asset also. It's just that he didn't have much baseball left.Alex Cora is probably as good as many starting shortstops, but lacks any standout offensive skill to get anybody excited enough to give him the job.So you sign some Julio Lugo with more upside, he getss the job or replaces the starter when he's hurt, then moves on when they try somebody else with more upside or the stater heals. It's a living.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Getting away from this eight reliever nonsense is, well, a relief is what it is.Hey, Charlie Samuels, let's say we get a real hat for Misch already. Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 This move isn't about replacing Nieve so much as replacing Sheffield. I'm unsure why they went to Sully instead of Evans, as he's likely to go back in a few days, and has no options.7/20/09Assigned to 15-Day Disabled ListMoved from BullpenMoved from OuttfieldPurchased from BuffaloStarting PitchersInfieldersOutfield-ersNieveReddingTatisSullivanYour 2009 New York MetsStarting PitchersHernandezDon Cardwell Memorial Savvy Veteran Starter Roster SpotPelfreyReddingPerezSantana

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Yeah, that's why I was holding off.Wouldn't Ms. Figueroa's head explode if Nelson got DFA'd again?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 They're down to twelve pitchers, so I suppose either Castillo or Sheffield gets disabled, or we have seen the last of Angel Berroa. Can't see them going with eleven pitchers.
