Orioles' Roberts says he used steroids once

BALTIMORE (AP) - Breaking his silence on the inclusion of his name in the Mitchell Report, Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts admitted that he used steroids once in 2003.

In an interview in Tuesday's editions of The Sun in Baltimore, Roberts acknowledged that he used steroids "once" in 2003. However, he said he hadn't used steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs since.
In a statement he issued to the newspaper, Roberts said that after the single injection he immediately realized that it was not what he "stood for" or anything he wanted to continue doing. He said he's sorry he did it and said he regrets making what he says was a "terrible decision."

Roberts was named in the Mitchell Report because former Orioles teammate Larry Bigbie told investigators Roberts had told him he used steroids "once or twice" in 2003.

I think we're seeing how thorough Mitchell's investigation was.

If he found out that a player had used steroids twice, it was the only two times that he had done so.

If he finds out that a player had used steroids once, that was, in fact, the one lone occurrence.

Amazing!

he should've gone with the Pettitte defense: "i did it to come back from injury faster, to help my team!"

that excuse seems very popular.

As long as we're all coming clean, in 2004 I once took a pre-natal vitamin. My wife had asked me to go get it for her from the kitchen, along with a glass of water. On the way back, I stopped to watch something unfold on TV, got distracted, popped the pill in my mouth, and washed it down with water.

I knew immediately it was a mistake, that taking pre-natal vitamins was unnatural. From there on out, I made it a point never to go near that stuff again.

I apologize for disappointing all of you, and I understand that by my actions, I may have tainted some of the posts I made in 2004. I am willing to accept this but I ask that we wipe the slate clean going forward.

I am happy to cooperate fully in any investigation that may ensue and I urge you all to stay away from pre-natal vitamins.

I had a steroid injection in my right ear, on two occasions, in 1998.

It was to reduce some scar tissue, but now I have bionic hearing.

My shame knows no bounds. I was so relieved not to have been mentioned in the Mitchell Report.

Those things are the size of horse pills! Gotta wonder about what else CF was on that he could have confused for the PNV....

Yancy's abuse was obvious. When he showed up he was just a measly little database. Now he's a big muscular orange rocky dude. We all knew he was on something.

Notable is that there were players implicated by Radomski and others who weren't in the Mitchell report because of lack of corroboration. The players Mitchell named were exceeded the legal standard of hearsay, and would be admissable in court.

Watson was one of the ones implicated but not included in the report, according to recently unsealed affadavits.

And if anything sounds like a bang-up Robert Ludlum novel, it's THE GRIMSLEY AFFADAVIT.

Here's a reall Crane Pooler of a Ludlum novel:

Is that one of the books that Ludlum wrote after he died?

I can't say I'm thrilled with this trend of ghost-writers penning novels under the names of dead people. That's taking the term a bit too literally.

Well, he didn't make the list the list. And Senator Mitchell kept him and others out for a reason.

]Perhaps the most notable new name to emerge from the affidavit is former Mets pitcher Sid Fernandez, who wrote a $3,500 check to Radomski in 2005, almost eight years after the lefty's last appearance in a major league game. The affidavit doesn't say what Fernandez got for his money.

why the heck would you want roids when you're retired?

BALCO client Marion Jones gets six months in lockup today for lying to federal prosecutors.

I was more immediately concerned with Bonds, but yeah, this really makes this hearing that much more dramatic.

i'd guess more, as his only jeopardy is in lying to federal prosecutors, not from injecting anyone with anything.

lying to the feds is a much more bad thing to do, in their eyes, i would imagine.

well perjury certainly tops using illegal substances like steroids, but i'm not sure its higher up than distributing/selling.

according to the mitchell report, it seemed to me that he was administering the illegal substances - not engaging in the trade or exchange of them. i could be wrong, but that is my recollection.

oe. never mind... talking about radomsky...
ofe. never mind never mind. i'm having trouble following simple conversations.
