Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) APRMAYJUNJULAUGSEPFor the third consecutive year, the Schaefer Mets Player of the Year is DAVID WRIGHT but unlike in 2006, few are likely to be surprised by David's victory. Wright led the Mets with 196 hits, 42 doubles, a .325 batting average, a .546 slugging percentage, and an on base percentage of .416. His 30 home runs and 107 runs batted in were both a close second to Carlos Beltran, and his 113 runs and 34 stolen bases were second to Jose Reyes.http://leaptoad.com/mets/jpeg/DavidWright1971.jpgThe Pitcher of the Year, (please hold your boos) is TOM GLAVINE. For much of the season, the award was securely in John Maine's grasp, but Maine's post-All Star break tailspin allowed Glavine to surpass his point total. (Maine's no-hit bit in the Mets' last victory of the season was almost enough for him to regain the lead, but even had he rated a perfect 6, he still would have fallen short. Glavine led the Mets in the unspectacular category of innings pitched. He was third in wins with 13 (behind Maine and Oliver Perez, who each won 15) and his winning percentage of .619 was second only to Orlando Hernandez (.643) among starting pitchers who spend the full season in the Mets rotation. This is Glavine's second Pitcher of the Year award; he also won in 2006.http://leaptoad.com/mets/jpeg/TomGlavine1973.jpgSeason-to-date totals for 2007Through game of September 30, 2007RankNamePoints1David Wright124.772Carlos Beltran109.253José Reyes100.464Carlos Delgado81.595Tom Glavine75.976John Maine74.867Oliver Perez66.918Orlando Hernandez64.069Paul Lo Duca59.4310Shawn Green56.5511Moises Alou55.6612Jorge Sosa44.9013Aaron Heilman34.8614Billy Wagner34.1115Lastings Milledge30.4916Damion Easley30.0217Pedro Feliciano27.0618Ramon Castro26.7419Ruben Gotay25.4220Luis Castillo23.8021Endy Chavez23.1422Scott Schoeneweis22.8623Guillermo Mota19.7824Marlon Anderson19.6125Joe Smith18.9626Carlos Gomez15.2327José Valentin14.9328Pedro Martinez14.8629Mike Pelfrey13.1730Aaron Sele12.8131David Newhan9.5432Julio Franco7.3933Ricky Ledee4.9434Ambiorix Burgos4.5735Mike DiFelice4.5236Brian Lawrence4.1837Jeff Conine3.5138Chip Ambres1.5239Willie Collazo1.3640Philip Humber0.9241Sandy Alomar0.9142Jon Adkins0.8343Ben Johnson0.6244Carlos Muniz0.4245Lino Urdaneta0.3246Jason Vargas0.2547Anderson Hernandez0.08 Edited October 3, 2007 by Guest

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Great job.I don't recall, were all of Brian Lawrence's points earned in his one victorious game? If so, is that a first for someone with as many points as he had?Later
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Congrats to our winner, well deserved, and to Glavine who seemed to win by default. And mostly to you and me, the Schafer voters, and to the Schaefer vote coordinator, YSG.We really should give DW a prize this year
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Brilliant work Yancy, you should get a prize.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 How about Gotay holding off Castillo in a way that the Mets didn't hold off the Phils? If we want to get publicity, the prize should be $$ to the David Wright Foundation.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Thanks Yancy for all your hard work!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I was totally stumped as to who would be Pitcher of the Year.Several guys had their stretches where they were the best on the staff but nonekept it up the whole season.Sorting the pitchers out for the year-end rankings is going to be tough.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 When do we want to start working on the rankings?

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Yancy, those cards are wonderful. Kudos on the graphics and keeping this thing going 162 times. You're my Schaefer POTY.And I can't think of any greater commentary on 2007 that its pitcher of the year is Tom Glavine.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 The cards are a fantastic touch Yance.Fantastically done! And personally, a simpleton like me looks at numbers and my brain hurts, but I can look at baseball cards all day.
