FYI its now 28 games for Alou, who skies out as I type and Beltran on second for Delgado.

Alou got his hit in the 6th.

Delgado strikes out

Try getting a little bigger chip next time guys.

Not a lot of juice at Shea, and Gary & Keith remarked it seems to show in the players as well.

Better not be this way the rest of this series, to say nothing about the homestand. Rough road trip or not.

The Nationals chip away at Mota as Belliard doubles in another Washington run.

I'm pretty suree we can overcome this deficit but we're gonna need you, Jose Reyes.

I don't like Gomez's cut just yet, but he seems to have a good eye.

OE: He chases a ball and Ks just as I submit.

Dave Williams sighting here in the ninth.

We're gonna need Reyes under any circmustances.

Reyes sucks. This team is very disappointing.

Glad we could help redeem Langerhans' awful season.

Castillo? Going from first to third in the ninth down by 10?
Tying run seven batters behind Beltran at the plate.

I think we've seen the last of Dave Williams.

On another board discussing how this team, baring an championship conclusion, just might be the least fondly recalled Met postseason team. I suggested over 1988 and was told emphatically, no, not even close.

So doing some quick research I have come to this conclusion.

The 1988 New York Mets would absolutely destroy the 2007 Mets!

The '88 Mets ruled the universe.

When was the last time a MLB team ONLY used 15 hurlers and 7 starters all year long? With Gene Walter and Edwin Nunez as the only real "shaky" pen guys and David West as the only "lets give the young guy a shot" guy.

We will soon have seen the last of the Mets for the year if they don't win a few games. This team unfortunately peaked in April and May when they went 34-18. Since June, the Mets have barely been a .500 club as they have gone 53-51 counting tonights debacle.

I really can't decide if the team greatly overachieved last season when they buried the remainder of the National League or whether they are grossly underachieving this season. I keep thinking it is a combination of both. The team overachieved in a magical season last year and now most of the roster finds that they can't duplicate the production of last season. As a result the team's overall performance greatly suffers.

What was it BretSalaDocQ used to say?

You're never as good as you think you are when you're winning and you're never as bad as you think you are when you're losing.

Heh, just thinking now, its going to be strange in 2009, the 40th anniversary of 1969 (uh sorry Yance, MFS62 and others) and doing the celebration in the new ballpark. That would have a odd twinge to it.

Wearing the black jerseys is never a good thing.

This is one where they did look lifeless.

Should have had Mahmoud Ahmadinejad throw out the first pitch.

Brilliant....he could deny that the midnight massacre ever happened.

Yeah, I heard it was Reyes idea to walk 9 batters.

Seriously, scapegoating anyone on the offense for this loss is specious. Any time a team scores 4 runs and outhits the opponent they should be able to win or at least be close.

I wasn't scapegoating the offense, I was scapegoating Reyes! I don't think he should be counted as part of the offense anymore.
