This may have been the first time I've looked at a lineup and lamented Milledge not being in it.

Gomez will need to look alive.

Sweet little diving play by Wright to end the top half. Pelfrey looked good, peppering the corners. That first pitch slider to Zim looked a little flat, though.

Out of habit, I went for the fast-forward on the Tivo and got denied. First live game for me in a good while.

LGM!

Jose walks to open the game for the Mets = Good.

Jose gets thrown out stealing second = Not so good.

It seems Jose's stolen base success rate has been plummeting of late.

With the way Chico is throwing right now, it would appear that patience would be the key to really lighting him up for some runs. The Mets just need to wait for him to fall behind, then jump on his 84-85 mph fastball when he's forced to throw a strike (assuming he can).

I would like to see less promise and potential from Pelfrey and more actual performance. I know that he won't turn 24 until January, but he just doesn't seem to be improving in his performance level the past two seasons.

Oh yeah, it's 5-1 Nationals through five innings.

Joe Smith on in relief of Pelfrey with two gone in the fifth and runners on first and second for the Nationals. Smith gets a groundball to third to end the inning. Unfortunately, it's after giving up a double to Belliard to drive in both the free pass recipients.

Pelfrey issued 5 walks in 5.67 innings of work. That's begging for trouble.

Mets chase Chico with a run and some baserunners in the 6th.

Conine (check that, Green) to face Rivera with 2 on 1 out.

Rally time...

Wake up, got another day to get through now
Got another man to see
Got to call him on the telephone
Got to find a piece of paper

Sit down, got another letter to write
Think Ill got to get the letter just right
Theres a ringing on the telephone
Oh no, got to write a little later
No such day as tomorrow, only one two three go!

Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin in my head
Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin in my head
Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin in my head
Tickin in my head, tickin in my head, tickin in my head

If I tell you what Im doing today
Will you shut up and get out of my way?
Someone asked me what the time is,
I dont know
Only know I gotta go now

No time - trying to get a watch repaired
No time - never got a thing to wear
Hear the ringin of the telephone no no
Hear a ringin in my head now
No such thing as tomorrow, only one two three go!

Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin in my head
Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin in my head
Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin in my head
Tickin in my head, tickin in my head, tickin in my head

The Mets need a big hit now. It will be up to Conine, hitting for Smith, since I have little faith in Reyes driving in runs at this point.

The Nationals counter with righthander Saul Rivera.

Willie burns Conine and sends up Green in his place.

Any help on the action would be appreciated. Gameday and Gamecast both still have Green batting with a 2-1 count. They have obviously both froze up so I'm clueless as to what's happening now.

Green walked
Reyes bounced out - run scored - runners to 2nd & 3rd
Castillo bounced out to end the inning after an 11 pitch AB

7-3 after 6 -- but we needed more runs that inning.

Simba Sighting, Ted Simmons, now a Padre scout was spotted in the front row.

I thought the Geico commercial spoofing the Beverly Hillbillies was clever.

Gameday has finally started running again. I see that Green walked to load the bases. Reyes grounded out to shortstop to bring one run home. I guess I should be happy he didn't pop up and strand everyone. Unfortunately, Castillo grounds out to end the threat.

The Mets just needed one hit to really get back into this game, but Reyes and Castillo were unable to deliver.

Upon edit: Thanks for the update Frayed Knot. You posted it while I was typing this post.
