Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 A thought popped into my head as I considered the suckitude of Scott Schoeneweis... who are the all-time most cringe-inducing examples of suckitude, blowing chances, or simply screwing up in Mets history? Who could never get it done in a big spot? Who would cause you to erupt in obscenities when they came into the game or were up at bat?I'll nominate a few:Braden LooperScott SchoeneweisArmando BenitezMel Rojas

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Al Moran. He had the shittiest looking batting stance you ever saw.And the results were comensurate with the stance. So he came back the next year and hadn't changed a thing.Same results.Later
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 When you are so sucky -- or as least suck compared to the level of success expected -- that you define an era, that's bad.I present: The Butch Huskey Era
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Jose Lima. The only worthwhile contribution he made to the team was Melissa's picture in the wifey watch thread.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 LASTINGS MILLEDGE!!! Why does everybody think you're so special?! You can't hit righties! You can't hit a breaking ball from lefties! You play average defense on your good days! You throw offline if you throw it hard and when you throw it straight it bounces six times! You look like a lost puppy dog running the bases! You have more strikeouts than hits and I can't remember a time when you didn't! You seem more concerned with looking good than playing good! Yet, people complain that you don't play enough and I would rather trade you for ANYTHING...are you ever going to live up to your billing??
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2007 Author Posted August 27, 2007 I don't know who's worse... Schoeneweis or Graves...

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Kaz Ishii, Kaz Matsui, Roger Cedeno (the 2nd time he was here).Theres always a reliever or two every year that I really hate, but Mel Fucking Rojas is easily my least favorite.

You used your breath screaming at the guy who was the fifth outfielder for the first half of the season?Suck in a bad year and you suck with many.Suck in a close year and your suck really stands out.ETA: It's easy enough to recall "Jerry Martin never got a big hit, in fact he always made an out in a clutch situation and cost the Mets just enough to make a substantial difference in their race with the Cubs." Of course statistics exist to either subvert or support our memories.According to Baseball-Reference.com, Jerry Martin in 1984:--went 3 for 24 with two walks, 13 strikeouts and two double plays grounded into as a pinch-hitter--went 2 for 23 with two walks, seven strikeouts and 3 double plays grounded into with runners in scoring position--went 1 for 19 in "late & close" situations, walking twice, striking out eight times and grounding into 3 double plays in the 7th inning later with the Mets tied, up by one or the tying run at least on deckI reiterate my applause of HahnSolo's call and retroactively unmuffle by Jerry Martin-related scream.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 It seems kind of pointless. Guys will fail every year. Even nineteen-eighty-six had Santana and Teufel.

Jerry Martin could have taken a few dozen at-bats and it wouldn't have mattered a whole bunch. In 1984, Jerry Martin was, to my 1984 self, the fly in some otherwise delightful ointment, particularly as a 4-1/2 game lead in late July melted away, making the ointment a little yucky in real time.Sadly, I have not reached the point of contentment where I remember that men in Mets uniforms do in fact not always succeed when I want them to and accept it as a fact of this imperfect life.Guillermo Mota's A-OK, too.

He was also a former teammate of Davey's, which seemed to gain him more ABs than his production indicated he should be getting.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Dave Kingman. Stupidest man to ever play major league baseball. He could only do three things at the plate:1. Hit a home run to left field.2. Hit a fly ball to the left field warning track (sometimes even one-handed).3. Strike out.Since 2 and 3 were far more common than 1, you wanted to shake him up and point to right field and say, "You can hit the ball there sometimes."
