Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 If you had to pick a player right NOW(!!!!) to play second for the rest of the year, that is, get 90% of the starts, who would you pick? Assume everyone stays healthy.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 My preference would be "other" as in the trade route.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 So you're not going to pick anyone in the poll? Boo.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 i'll pick Easley given the options, but i'm not sure any 1 guy we currently have is an answer, just keep them all around and play the hottest hitter of the moment the most.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I'm voting pot pourri.A little bit of thisA little bit of thatIt started with a kissNow we're up to batA little bit of laughsA little bit of painI'm tellin' you myIt's all in the game of love
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I like chicks.Seriously, with Easley facing lefties and Gotay and Valentin splitting the righties, I have no problem with playing a different guy every day until one of them distinguishes himself. Gotay's obviously been doing some of that.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 The answer is Gotay. I'm fine with giving Easley the ABs against righties. Marlon can platoon some with Milledge but I see him primarily as the main LH pinch hitter.Valentin isn't hitting, so he gets the bench. Seriously. Gotay needs to be in the lineup.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I went with Gotay, but I have no confidence that I'm right.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I voted Valentin 'cause no one else had and somebody should. Also, he plays the best defense (please note that I am currently Rey Ordonez). That being said, I really favor the "give them all some starts" method.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I was thinking that. I'm picturing the four of them playing defense, and even with his reduced range, I think Valentin is still the best defender of the crew. But it's greatly reduced, and that edge is hardly a deal breaker. He's hit the ball hard this week.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 As a forum what are we not seeing with Gotay that Ron,Gary and Keith are?,I like Gotay but these guys rave about him, saying things like"be tough for Willie to sit him now","no idea how he can sit him".That was an exchange Ron and Gary had last night(something like that). When I say as a forum I should say I don't see that unbridled enthusiasm for Gotay that the booth guys have.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I'm enthusiastic. I just know that other shoes drop.Ron, Gary, Keith do too. It will be tough for Willie to sit him as well as he's played. It won't be tough at all if he goes three hitless games.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I like Gotay. Let the kid play.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 "Let the BOY TRY!""yes, yes... let the boy try!!"
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Can I write in "any of the four not surnamed Valentin"?
Batty31 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I went with Gotay, though I'd rather see a platoon of Easley/Gotay.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I'd keep throwing Gotay out there while he's hot.If he cools down, we can settle into a platoon situation. If he doesn't, awesome.
Guest Kid Carsey Guests Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I took Gotay purely on vibe, I don't know what the right answer is.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I think the right answer is to give the best guy a chance to win the position.I voted Gotay because my hunch is that he'd be the ultimate winner. But there's really no need to anoint anyone right now.
Guest iramets Guests Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 The answer is "Gotay," and it's amazing to me that this is even a subject for discussion. You've got three retreads whose best days are literally a decade or more ago, and one young guy with a world of potential,* and a club that needs offense like Paris Hilton's bush needs aeration, and "you guys" are debating who to give the job to?*currently batting .354oe: added asterisked data

I posted the poll to see if the rest of the forum agreed. This gives you more ammo against Willie, not so much the forum that is 82% in agreement with you.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Well a fractured tibia for Valentin (off a foul ball) pretty much eliminates him from the competition for now.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Folks on the Royals pages seem to be down on Gotay-- saying things like his BA is inflated (limited AB) and his defense horrendous. They've seen more of him that we, but I think it's sour grapes mo than anything else.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I know it's not an option in the poll, but I favor a platoon with Gotay facing the righthanders and Easley taking on the lefties.Bad year or not, I hate to see Valentin get hurt. He's likely done for the year.
Guest Iubitul Guests Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Vic Sage wrote:"Let the BOY TRY!""yes, yes... let the boy try!!"This is to play 2nd base, not Tic Tac Toe.I voted Gotay, too. I do like what I have seen from him.
