MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I interpreted the question to mean who will be playing second base this year rather than who would we like to be playing second base this year.I'd rather it be Gotay, but I feel we'll be seeing a lot of Mr. Anderson there.Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Valentin might want to get that partially torn ACL operated on and cash in his season, rather than hope he can come back in September with that and a recently healed fracture.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Meet your new second baseman.Just heard on the radio that Anderson Hernandez was recalled from AAA. He was actually hot there, raising his average about 30 points to .280 in recent weeks. Later
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 if Anderson Hernandez starts over Gotay, willie should be fired.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 His stay with the Mets should be pretty brief. I would imagine that it shuldn't be long before Damion Easley returns to the team.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 i dont know, willie might decide he likes his defense, we'll see.
Guest iramets Guests Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 On the Pre-game show, Omar Gawd kept referring to Anderson Hernandez as "Marlon Anderson," which created no little confusion. Eddie C. helped him out, about like how you'd help out a retarded six-year old trying to put a sentence together.Yes, I understand, Yancy: this information is tedious for you to keep reading.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Well, Hernandez's defense didn't get him into the lineup today, but Gotay makes an argument for it.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 From what I've seen, Gotay's problems in the field don't appear to have anything to do with limited range so much as some lapses in concentration, especially on potential double plays. That should be something he can work on. Plus I think the Mets need to show sustained life on offense in general before I'd consider Anderson Hernandez a risk they can afford at this point. At this point I think Gotay's earned an extended look, and hopefully he can keep the fielding issues to a bare minimum, and certainly not as costly as yesterday's throw turned out to be.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 A lack of concentration contributes to stuff like throwing errors. His real problem is that he's just slightly slow to the ball. I don't know if that's concentration or just that he's slow to react.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 No. But I thnk it's foolish for us to come up with scenarios to hate the manager for.Do you think Hernandez is about to be instituted as the primary secondbaseman?

But I don't see how that really matters.Nymr said he'll call for Willie's release if he starts AHer. I tend to agree.-----Eh, I guess I see your point. I think Willie should be fired if he starts Castro in center. Kinda stupid.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 not nearly the same thing, one (starting Hernandez at 2B regularly right now) requires a manager to make a dumb indefensible move, the other (starting Castro in CF) requires that the manager be almost literally brain dead.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2007 Author Posted July 22, 2007 They're pretty much the same thing because the odds of them happening are about zero for both.
