Hmmmm. That means there's a (very slightly) game-used Murray Mets jersey out there somewhere.....

I have his Braves road jersey, which is nice and all except that it's a bleeping Braves jersey.

The other recent Murray is of course WAAAAY out of my price range, and I'm not sure if they had names on their backs when Dale Murray played for them.

My first thought to the 'One Game Only' question was Gary Mathews Jr. ... except that he played in 2 despite only getting 1 AB:
He pinch-hit once, but also pinch-ran in the next game (and was then traded).

Heard a caller on WFAN once in the early 90's, when the more famous Kevin Brown was breaking out for the Rangers, complain about how the Mets once had him and let him go. His call was never really answered and got a "Well, we'll look it up, good bye." responses from the host and it was never brought up again.

My first thought was that, and I'm still pretty sure, he was thinking of this guy


But doing a search recently I found a shot of Brown in a minor league Met uni in some 85-86 card set.

Baseball-reference.com lists Brown as being drafted by the Rangers of course in 1986 and he was a player in their chain of course, so what the heck is the story of that image of Brown in a Metly uni?

Kind of surprising that it took til 1969 for the Mets to have a one-game player. Other than players who might have a chance to play another major league game, are there any of those whose one Met game was his only major league game?

Baseball Reference has a nifty little "Cups of Coffee" page that lists every major leaguer with only 1 game player. I'd cross-reference the two lists, but I'm busy right now.

Nah, that Kevin Brown is the only Met Kevin Brown. The pitcher was drafted by Texas and spent his whole time in their system before going to the O's in 1995.

No great loss. Chan Ho Park was sporting a 5.57 ERA and had allowed 64 hits in 51 2/3 innings of work for the AAA Zephyrs.

Park was this years equivalent of Jeremi Gonzalez or Jose Lima.

How did Roach wind up on the 1-game list when he'd appeared in 2?

Scarce had a discernible career with the Phillies from '72 to '74 , which is part of what made the Tug McGraw trade not seem all that insane (John Stearns aside) when it was made. He resurfaced with the Twins in 1978.

Murray for Rusch is never mentioned in the pantheon of great Mets trades, but it certainly ranks among the very good ones.

The Mets' one-gamers whose only game was that one Mets game (woodchuck could chuck wood) were Hudson, Estrada, Rose, Liddell, Morgan and Hietpas (pending unforeseen catching calamities).

Gibson, Hernandez and Hinchliffe (Met ERA from his one aptly named emergency start: 36.00) all had previous ML experience but never pitched again after their Met cameos, something Vargas is hoping he won't have to say (and probably won't; Park, too, presumably).

Greer is the only Mets one-gamer on the list whose ML debut was with the Mets who went on to experience a little more big-time meal money (eight games with the Giants in 1995). One wonders if Kenny Greer is the only major leaguer to have made his debut in a 17th inning.
