Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Clearly folks are having trouble finding an inneresting image of Carlos Beltran.Carlos BeltranRigo BeltranArmando BenitezDennis Bennett Gary Bennett
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Commentary - I find this picture of Carlos most interesting as his mole seems to have been photo-shopped out..it's on his right side ,right?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I want commentary. Why inneresting? The wax job? Most beautiful nipple ever? The absence of Carlos Jr.?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 http://www.webnews.gr.jp/sign/058_beltran.jpgHere we have Rego Beltran pitching for the Hiroshima Carp, demonstrating Japanese contempt for American trademarks. It's hard to put my finger on why his belly is bleached, but I guess it's just a funny angle of the sun.http://www.weekender.co.jp/new/020405/images/P10-2.jpgIf you look right, you see they stole the Reds look at more than one level. The old-school computer-character "CARP" in the lower lefthand corner sure can read as "CRAP" without having to squint too much.Funny how even former MLB-ers in Japan seem to wear smaller gloves.Rigo wore the same 43 as a Met.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I insist on believing this is the result of a locker room prank involving copious amounts of Krazy Glue and a feather used to tickle 'Mado's nose.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Okay, Dennis. You've got to pose for this baseball card photo. First, though, put on this hat that doesn't fit, and this glove that also doesn't fit. Good, now for your pose. I got it, pretend you are Shaggy from Scooby Doo and you've just seen a ghost. Perfect!
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Gary Bennett, a Met for only 1 turn at bat (a double) shows that at heart he's a catch-and-throw guy.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Now tell me where on the field he's positioned and who he's throwing to.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 He is between first and the mound and he is horribly overthrowing the pitcher.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I thougth he was about 25 feet up the third base line and trying to hit somebody sitting behind the plate to the side of the screen.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Kris Benson next. Should be no shortage of inneresting photos out there for that one.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Benson in the '79 "We Are Family" get-up. Those shoes and the long pant legs don't really fit, though. And is the ball still in his glove? What up?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 That is defintiely a qualifter. Nice work.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Butch Benton in his Senior League uniform with the St Pete Pelicans.Quite an interesting concept that never did take off, but those uniforms look straight out of something you'd see on the High School and College level
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Not so much interesting that it's Juan Berenguer, but the fact that his card is shared by two all-time fan favorite Mets. Two out of three "future stars" making it isn't bad!
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 FINE:Freed from the shackels of the Reds no facial hair policy Berenyi here shows off a fine Mountain Man beard, which compliments that really sweaty underbill of his cap. Now you want to talk great early 80's Mountain Men looks? Dwight Bernard of the Brew Crew has the look down pat. Add those GIANT frames on his glasses and you have quite an interesting look going. Also inneresting is that the insert photo of this card appears to be the same picture from a different angle!I really was hoping to get this in, this is my cousin, one of the main reasons why I'm a Mets fan (he's a HUGE Yankee fan) with Lawrence Peter Berra
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 You cut in line to post a picture of a Yankee fan and a Yankee? You suck Rogers.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 The last Met before Jerry Koosman to don 36. Only 18 years old in his one and only Metly (and MLBly career) season, also wore 41 (started 1965 with it, Gordie Richardson was wearing it so he moved to 28 and finally 36)! Guess not much inneresting other than being that young and idealic looking in this photo and knowing that within a couple of years he'd be out of the Big Leagues and a runner up for ROY and World Series hero would be wearing the number shown in this photo. Probably Spring Training of 1966 actually.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Best I could find for Steve Bieser was some assorted Getty crap.Steve? Steve? Camera's over here. And the plain blue background is kind of ugly. Does your mom always cheap out on class picture day like this? Whatever, just smile kid. Get out of here.Next! (That'd be you, Mike Birkbeck).
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 I wish Steve Bieser really did do websites.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 http://rndng3rd.com/NYMHall/players/B/Mikbis.jpgThe late Mike Bishop is one of the most obscure Mets out there, and owes his big-league cup of coffee to some bad book-keeping back in 1983. So all we can really find of him is this Tidewater card. It's interesting because the old-skool tube hat seems an inch and a half taller on him than on other Tides, making him seem more ridiculous, because the frame on the photo has a center-part, which you know Mike has also, and because he comes across like some guy from Babylon who I want to punch because he laughs at people who don't have a truck as big as his.Willie Blair, what's so interesting about your photo?
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Actually Mike Birkbeck should have been before the late Mike Bishop...
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 http://www.nmnathletics.com.edgesuite.net/pics8/200/HQ/HQSCDTSBAMOMQEW.20061106213212.JPGOK, I find this shot of Mike Birkbeck inneresting because (a) he's the assistant head coach at Jeff Kent State, despite going to rival Akron.( it's been a long time since I saw a cap fit a player's head so.. fittedly.© he's only about 45 but looks 62, despite his athletic upper body.Willie Blair, do need to repeat the question?

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Our colleagues over at Tigers Central have done a nice job chronicling their club's long and storied history; however, they apparently just use any photo -- they're not so picky about their caps. Despite Willie Blair's 3+ seasons as a Tiger, the best photo they could find was apparently this one.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Willie Blair had a magical chin.Terry BlockerBruce BochyTim Bogar Brian BohanonBruce BoisclairLike there's a picture of Boisclair that isn't interesting.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Bumping before Squiddy swims by on Wednesday.APB for Terry BlockerBTW Edgy, even though I understand that to you and others that its me mic hogging, but this is the reason I throw multiple posts in a row in a thread like this
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 http://www.hagenspan.com/NYMHall/players/B/Terblo.jpgInteresting things about this Terry Blocker card:Like most Terry Bocker pictures, it shows his strong jarhead jaw, not unlike, say, Fred McGriff, suggesting a taller presence than the 6-2 listed on his card.Like me, and David Letterman, he's got a gap in his teeth. Unlike us, it's not centered.Seems to be an early proponent of brim ironing. This is his 1987 card, when he was as good as almost anybody in the International League (.312 BA, 164 hits, 33 steals, and 89 runs), but he still never did much for the Braves after the Mets sent him to Atlanta for one-gamer Kevin Brown.Sartorial sins everywhere by the Tides:Using a Roman T on the hat but a highly stylized script on the jersey.solid color jersey.using the brighter louder color as the primary color and the deeper, more sober color secondarily.Ugh, the pullover vee. Don't talk to me in your pullover vee.Less bullshit is generally better than more when it comes to baseball card designs, but this may be the least imaginitive card design ever.
