seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I like how Larry Bowa looks wistful here.Because let's face it; the dude's crazy. This is the Bowa we all know:
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 http://www.mikesmets.com/images/kenboyer.jpgThe Mets got Ken Boyer for wily lefty Al Jackson and Charley Smith, a utility man who could hit some --- not quite an analogy to the Keith Hernandez deal, but pretty comparable considering Boyer was only a year removed from his MVP and was still seemingly solid. This card captures the Boyer they got, though --- overmatched but trying not show it, a little afraid that any moment somebody's going to tap him on the shoulder and tell him that, sorry, there's been a mixup, and he was never supposed to be in the big leagues at all.The truth is that Boyer gave the Cards a remarkably consisent run from 1956-1964 (he hit 24 homers four yeears in a row!). His MVP year certainly wasn't his best, but it was the year he garnered the most RBI, and when he had one bad year in 1966, the Cards moved him. Mets Assistant GM Bing Devine may have had his lunch taken here by his St. Louis successor Bob Howsam, Howsam being the only one to suspect that Boyer was done, except, to judge from this photo, Boyer himself.Maybe he just needed glasses or lasick, but t's almost like he's digging in for bailout practice.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Yes, I realize that sounds like a posting from Cardboard Gods, but I didn't mean it to be.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 With his funky delivery, nearly every picture of Chad Bradford is interesting. Each time he throws, he demonstrates that his arm bends in a way arms are not supposed to bend.
