I suppose a true test of whether we've actually turned into the Yankees is whether they decide to keep Mota and pretend he hadn't been cheating a la Sheffield and Giambi.

And whether we give him a standing ovation every time he trots his pumped-up ass out to the mound (provided he's effective, of course).

Boo. Get rid of him.

Okay, now please explain why metirish said what he said about googling Abordick.

(nice use of biblical talk there)

Better would have been to describe her as an abomination unto him.

Gabriel would never feel that way about Mary.

Was everyone dressed Bibically?

Must have been weird seeing a bunch of characters from the Old and New Testaments tossing around terms like "pond scum."

Yeah, but she wasn't really much of a Mary.

She was an abomination of Mary.

She incorporated Christmas Garland into her costume. What the heck is that about?

Nah, there were two parties comibined. The first invitation asked for saint costumes, but few tried that. There were as many devils as angels.

Nobody took advantage of the opportunity to portray a grizzly martyrdom.

That's good.

Was it St. Sebastian who's always gushing blood from arrow wounds?

Tina Turner and Willona would have shook that party up

Wow, this sucks.

I used to be pleased that no Mets (at least at the ML level) had been caught cheating with performance-enhancing drugs.

="RONALD BLUM of the Associated Press"]

Guillermo Mota suspended 50 games

By RONALD BLUM AP Baseball Writer
 2006 The Associated Press

NEW YORK Reliever Guillermo Mota was suspended for 50 games Wednesday, becoming the third player penalized this year for violating Major League Baseball's toughened drug policy.

In announcing the suspension, the commissioner's office did not say why Mota was suspended. In announcing past suspensions, baseball said whether players had failed drug tests and whether they had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs

The 33-year-old pitcher was 4-3 with a 4.53 ERA this season with Cleveland and the New York Mets, who acquired him from the Indians on Aug. 20.

Mota, who gave up a tying two-run triple to Scott Spiezio in the seventh inning of Game 2 of the NL championship series, filed for free agency Monday. His suspension will start at the beginning of next season.

"I have no one to blame but myself," Mota said in a statement that did not explain how he ran afoul of baseball's drug rules. "I take full responsibility for my actions and accept MLB's suspension. I used extremely poor judgment and deserve to be held accountable."

"To my teammates and the entire Mets organization, I am sorry. I truly regret what I did and hope that you can forgive me. To baseball fans everywhere, I understand that you are disappointed in me, and I don't blame you. I feel terrible and I promise this is the first and last time that this will happen. I am determined to prove to you that this was one mistake."

Mota's agent, Adam Katz, said the pitcher intends to play next season.

"He is anxious to get back to work," Katz said. "I believe he'll be a better person and a better player moving forward."

Mota has 26-27 record with seven saves in eight major league seasons with the Montreal Expos, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida, Cleveland and the Mets.

In 2005, an initial suspension under Major League Baseball's drug policy was for 10 days but players and owners, under congressional pressure, agreed last November to lengthen the penalties. Pitchers Yusaku Iriki and Jason Grimsley also were suspended for 50 games this year.

Iriki tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance while on the Mets roster during spring training, and pitcher Jason Grimsley was penalized after authorities tracked a package containing human growth hormone to his home.

Iriki pitched one game for Class A St. Lucie of the Florida State League, then went 4-8 with a 4.70 ERA in 16 starts and three relief appearances with Triple-A Norfolk of the International League. He filed conditionally for free agency on Monday.

Grimsley already had been released by Arizona when he was suspended and does not appear to want to pitch in the major leagues again.

A year later, I still don't see what the point of that thread was. And I'm surprised to see it labeled a "classic."

Whatever.

I notice that that LGM clown stopped just short of his 41st post.

Feliks Heredia, although he was on the DL for most of his time as a 2005 Met, and in the same exact way, potential FA early in the postseason

Heredia actually had quite an eventual pre-suspension last year, and never got into an MLB game:

From Baseball-Reference.com

November 15, 2005: Granted Free Agency.

February 10, 2006: Signed as a Free Agent with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

March 24, 2006: Released by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

March 28, 2006: Signed as a Free Agent with the Cleveland Indians.

May 12, 2006: Released by the Cleveland Indians.

C'mon, I nailed him at the end and so he disappeared. It was the poster from Northern Virginia who used a picture of himself with his big boat as an avatar. He loved the old place initially, but began to grow sour after I got into an exchange with the friend he brought on, who tried to push the idea that it was disastrous that the Mets got into the 2000 World Series.

I'm not sure, but it's definitely surprising to see him admit to it considering how many excuses other players have come up with. I'm glad that there's at least one player who's not going to insult the intelligence of the fans by claiming they have no clue how the illegal substances got in their bodies.

It's tough when a player associated with your team gets busted. However, I think that it's likely that every team has players who have in the past or still do use performance enhancers. So to me anything that the Mets have or might have done wouldn't be any more tainted than any other accomplishments of any other team, because they may all have players using stuff they shouldn't.

Matt Lawton fessed up after getting caught.

And, of course, Jason Giambi apologized for ... well, somethin-er-other.

Can anyone find and post what Mota said yesterday?
Mike Greenberg (ESPN Radio) quoted it in its entirety this morning, then for comparison played tapes from Palmeiro, McGwire and Giambi when they admitted to nothing or denied everything.
While Mike and Mike agreed that taking performance enhancing drugs should be punished, they lauded Mota for acting like a man, admitting it and apologizing for it.

Also- Michael Kay has reportedly said that Mota is now his favorite player for the same reasons. Can someone please provide a link to that sound byte, too?
