RAINED OUT!

This is all because the LCAO of the Mets foolishly rented out Shea for a giant bingo tournament on Friday afternoon. They're petitioning MLB to have the NLCS game played Friday night, but Fox, knowing their viewers expect prime time coverage of the Yankees have dedicated that slot in-depth coverage of the Yankees post-post-season. It's a tough nut to crack.

Tim McCarver: And there is Jeter cleaning out his locker, I tell ya Joe, just the way he carries himself in these situations, it just goes to show you that October is his time of year...

And, in an associated story, Reggie Jackson held a press conference yesterday. He said he is gving up all claim to the name "Mr. October" so that it can be bestowed on Derek Jeter. He continued, "I am not as worthy of that name as Derek".

Friday's start time still is TBD.

What a bunch of jerks.

Show up at 1, and chant "We want a game!"

Call and complain. I did, and I'm considering repeating that complaint every 5-10 minutes.

I called, pretending to be a ticket holder, and actually spoke to a live person. He said the game time will be announced "later on today" but couldn't commit to any specific time.

Which means it might be as late as 4 p.m. Or even later.

If Gwreck had posted FOX's number, I would have called them.

And I doubt I would have gotten to a human being so quickly, if at all.

Unpractical -- they're neither accountable nor responsible. True, it may be their fault in theory, but MLB holds all responsiblity here.

The MLB guy sez they will announce "later this afternoon"

What a fucking joke

I called the FOX number. It's just recordings, you can't talk to a human. I pressed menu options until I got to "postseason baseball" and they told me to be sure to catch Game 6 of the NLCS as the Cardinals and Astros battle for the right to face the Chicago White Sox in the World Series, which begins this Saturday on FOX.

I didn't get the word "afternoon" from the guy I spoke to (who was probably the same guy you spoke to) but I kind of inferred that the announcement wasn't forthcoming.

Absolutely outrageous.

Has anyone tried calling the Mets to see what they're telling people?

I'm thinking he said "later" so as to get me to stop calling until later.

A friend suggests that the forecast for Detroit on Friday is poor (I have no idea if this is accurate or not), and that they will hold off on the decision until later today to see if they have a clearer picture of what tomorrow night's weather will be in the Motor City. The thought being that they want to insure that there's a prime time game, and if they announce the Met starting time as an afternoon game and then the Tigers are rained out, FOX is left to show reruns of Bones.

Just make a decision, dammit.

Motor City forecast (apparently, it's snowing now):

Friday
47F | 36F
Showers
Mostly cloudy, showers around; windy in the morning. Mostly cloudy, showers around; windy in the afternoon. Patchy clouds, windy and cold in the evening. Patchy clouds, windy and cold overnight.

Yes, they told me it was out of their hands and MLB's decision to make.

It wasn't me.
But if you can get me the guy's name, I'm gonna' sue him for copywright infringement.

I'm really incensed about this.

They're demonstrating absolutely zero consideration for the fans. How fucking hard is it to pick a time? And if they're worried about Detroit canceling, why don't they just put us BOTH at prime time and do the split markets thing?

It's not like they're going to get good ratings if they put the game at 1:00 anyway--or even 4:00.

Of course they don't give a fiddlers fuck about the fans.....

I encourage anyone who hasn't called the MLB number yet to call. And when you do, call as a ticketholder, even if you're not one. Because it's the ticketholders who have the biggest stake in the starting time.

Us stay-at-home fans do too, of course. I've been able to make my work schedule flexible so I will be in front of the TV whenever the game starts. But I'm fortunate in that regard and I can imagine how antsy I'd be if I didn't have that flexibility.

I think a stink needs to be raised.

I'll be home too, because it is my day off, but it really is unfair to 55,000 fans.
And you know it's just over broadcasting issues, which means it's not about the baseball at all.

What I can't figure out is what factors they think are going to fall into place by this afternoon allowing them to make the "correct" decsion that they don't know about now - or even last night for that matter.
