Guest cooby Guests Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Just like 1986, the first thing I did was call my dad.
Guest KC Guests Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Hey, I don't like Wagner. Tomorrow I'll just post FUUUCCCKKK and prettypictures if I happen to be in the IGT. People embrace and dance around weird shit here sometimes.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Thing is, I don't trust him either.I'd just rather not trust any closer.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Yikes, I'm reaching out to rescue 5157 and bring him home.http://www.dodgerblues.com/fanforum/nfphpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6689

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Crowd was as loud as I've heard it in quite some time, especially during the first inning. Never got quite that loud again but they were pretty good. Unfortunate Yankees suck chant here and there (like after they ran that commercial on the Diamondvision where Tommy Lasorda tells us that October is the time to root against the yankees).Pedro was in the dugout, shown on the screen between innings. Cheers. He tries to duck away, but Ray Ramirez convinces him to come back up, he waves to the crowd (doing that Pedro "point" thing he does).Floyd got a curtain call of sorts, he was shown inside a big heart during the "Kiss Cam" between innings on the Diamonvision. He's put up, lots of cheering, he turns to see what's on the scoreboard and realizes that it's him. Tips the cap.I don't think I've ever seen Delgado show so much emotion on the field. I don't think he could've high-fived David Wright any harder after that bomb of a homer. Huge fist pump after the single in the 7th.To answer a question from earlier, yes, they did player introductions, but before the TV coverage started. El Duque limped out there for them, but then they didn't introduce him...and after finishing the rest of the players introduced him (the announcer seemed to be reading from the roster sheet directly).Serves Fox right for getting the rain delay after putting the MFYs in primetime again.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Delgado in the post-game press conference could not have been happier,I guess when you wait that long to play these games it means that much more.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Wow - that was intense! I'm not going to have a voice for a week, but it is totally worth it. A lot of emotion and ceremony even before the game, and thank goodness John Maine came through on short notice. It was a great day to be at Shea. I hope that those of you with Game 2 Tix have as good a time tomorrow night!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 After two months of meaningless baseball, what a weird feeling it was to be hanging on every pitch again. I am exhausted. I started feeling the effects during the seventh inning or so. Clearly the layoff has affected my endurance. Maybe I should have stretched it out a bit more in September.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Some pics from today....thanks Newsday...I love this one
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Is John McEnroe a Mets fan?

That guy's an idiot who's embarrassing us Met fans, and besides those fans are doing a fine job skewering him anyway.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Amazing game. Maine did a great job, and Delgado and Wright made me ever-so-happy. Mota looked sharp in the sixth, but I really wanted us to go to Heilman midway through the 7th. Still, it's hard to blame that awesome bunt by Anderson or Valentin's error on Mota . . .The crowd was amazing. I didn't think they could get any more intense than they were at the clincher, but they managed it. Billy nearly gave me a heart attack. Seriously, dude, stop fucking around. I can't wait to see the replay of the double play at the plate. That shit was incredible. I've never seen anything remotely like it. Green had a suck-ass game, but that one throw mitigates at least half of his at bats. Anyway, I'm totally exhausted now. And happy. What a game! Let's Go Mets!
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 What an extraordinary 2006 Met game. It went almost exactly as you knew the Mets would have to win: Their guns came through with just enough offense (despite leaving a few too many guys on 3rd), they were rewarded for making the plays and punished for not making them, WWSB strapped them on BIG-TIME going to situational guys in the 5th! -- brilliant! Ballsy! -- getting more than half the game from a tag-teaming bullpen.I don'tt recommend playing that way as a means to win every game, but to win one game -- today's game -- it was the way to go.
Lundy Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 It was absolutely intense at the game. The fans were keyed up for every pitch of the game. We were standing and rhythymically clapping for strikeouts in the FIRST inning, for crissakes.I was sitting in the mezz in the rightfield corner, kinda near the back of the section, so we couldn't see Shawn Green miss the ball, but we could tell from the crowd reaction that he didn't catch the ball. I'm guessing the baserunners were also focused on Green and whether or not he caught the ball. It certainly was the oddest double play I've ever seen. Kinda angry that they didn't replay it on Diamondvision (or if they did, we missed it.)Just to illustrate how busy and intense the game was. While walking to Penn Station, I noticed that my shoelace was untied. I was running late for the train, so I said, screw it, I'll tie it on the train. Train was too crowded--had to stand. Boardwalk over to Shea was packed as well. Waiting to pass through Gate E packed as well. Got to my seat right at first pitch and never thought about my shoelace. It was finally tied--right after I got off the train at Little Neck after the game.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Where did Delgado's homer land, anyway?I watched the replay on ESPN and on Mets.com and I can't see it. I missed it at the game because, well, we were going nuts.It was announced as 470 feet...did it clear the batter's eye? I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 I think this is my first win for starting an IGT.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 great great game, i just got home (no i wasnt there.) this was a huge win for the Mets behind the bullpen.i thought Randolph should have pinch-hit for Mota, the Mets have too many pitchers on the roster anyway theres no reason to care about wasting one there.it was well-managed and well-played otherwise.where is cleon "doom and gloom" jones? are the dodgers still winning it in 4?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 ESPN just showed clips of all the instances 2 runners were thrown out at home in video recorded MLB history. 7 or 8 of em.Willie Randolf was a number 2 of 2 out-at-the-plate-guys while playing for the Mets.(the play was broken up by a throw to second and blotched rundown in between) ha...still- how bout that?
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 This was more of a pregame thread thing, but I was in the ladies room before the game, when I overheard someone on her cell phone saying, "I'm stuck here in Manhattan in a management training seminar. I'll be here until at least 6:30."I wonder whether the person on the other end of the conversation heard me lauging at that.
