The exchange of Daniel Duarte in favor of Jonathan Pintaro may seem like just more back-end bullpen churn, but look a little closer and there is more to it.  For instance, losing Duarte from the roster trims from team 100% of all active Mexican Mets!

More importantly, Daniel has given up no runs on one hit and one walk in five innings.  Eventually, you want to start treating these people like people, and reward them for their good work, you know?

The absurdly long Injured List assignment of Jorge Polanco gets acknowledge for what it is, as he is transferred from the 10-Day to the 60-Day IL. 

FUN FACT: When Jorge was first IL'd, way back on April 18th, his assignment was backdated to April 15th.  The Mets were so confident in what they expected to be the brevity of Polanco's IL stay, that they made a point to file paperwork to keep his assignment to a minimum of seven days.

That was 59 days ago.

Most notable is the return of Zach Short.  Zach and Joey Wendle opened the 2024 season as the Mets backup infielders, but neither was able to get untracked at all.  Both were gone by mid-May, opening the door for Jose Iglesias, OMG!, and utter reversal of fortune of those 2024 Mets.

FUN FACT #2: Zack Short and Terrence Long each have -0.1 bWAR to their credit at baseball-reference.com in their brief tenures as Mets.  This second tenure may represent a chance for Zack to break the grievous tie in the bitter Short/Long rivalry!  Internal drama!

FUN FACT #3: Zack hails from Kingston, NY, and he got those strong legs from winters on the slopes as much as summers on the diamond, and when he's not playing ball, he's repping Potter Brothers Ski & Snowboard Shop, sporting the gear of his hometown's family-owned sports retailer.

FUN FACT #4: Zack was originally acquired by the Mets through a waiver claim from Detroit in November of 2023, and now he returns to the team ... through a waiver claim ... from Detroit.  Life is odd for guys tagged and professionally pigeonholed as AAAA players like himself.

The Mets have a few days to decide what to do with him.  They can replace Bruján, they can wait to see if an injury arises, or they can do what the Tigers did and try to sneak him through waivers themselves.
