Mr. Utley comes to Shea

This is not a KTE, and if I'm stepping on anybody's KTE toes, let me know. I thought this deserved its own topic.

Utley extended his hitting streak to 35 last night, the longest streak for a lefthanded hitter in over forty years. Since I've been following baseball, only Rose, Molitor, and Rollins have longer streaks.

Now he comes to Shea for three, the start of an odd scheduling stretch in which the Mets and Phils play ten games in 23 days. Looking ahead in the schedule, if Utley were to get near Dimaggio territory, assuming no rainouts and/or days he takes off, games 56 and 57 would be at Shea.

Go Chase!

I hope the Phillies lose and lose, but I'd like to see Utley get a hit in each of those games.

Let Joe DiMaggio end up in the dustbin of baseball history.

The Mets can't lose.

If they shut him down, good.

If they don't, he's chasing two Met enemies anyhow.

Joe Dimaggio is a much prettier name.

Maybe. But Chase Utley's name is a sentence.

I was at Shea when Rose came into town in the midst of his streak in JUly '78. Saw Zachry give up a coupla hits to extend the streak to 37 which I believe either tied or broke Tommy Holmes NL record.

If I remember it right. Pat kicked the dugout step or something out of frustration, broke his toe and was DL'd.

Later that year or early next when the Phils came in there was a give-away of a glossy 8x10 of Zachry giving up Rose's record breaker.

I'm sure Zachry was thrilled about that.

Considering he's carrying my fantasy team right now, I want him to triple into the gap with nobody on base every time up, but get thrown out at the plate trying to stretch each and every one into an inside-the-parker.

ok, Edge. I guess i shouldn't mention i've got him on 2 fantasy teams, then.

go Chase! get hits and lose!

Vic= seawolf17?

Nope. from their posts, wolf said he had him on one team, Vic said he had him on two.
Do they look that much alike to you?

but Vic and Seawolf are both SUNY SB alums... so maybe we ARE the same person!

wait, no, he likes the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I like the Monkees, so we are most definitely distinct entities.

SteveJRogers Sr. went there also in the 1960's
SteveJRogers Jr perfers Southern New England schools than Long Island schools...

I was at one of these games-- Rose had no hits and laid down a bunt for a hit in his last at bat. Im thinkin 38th but im really not sure.

I dont see Chase bunting just for the sake of a hit, ala Rose.

I hope Utley keeps it going, but with a 2 out single that leaves him stranded.
What I dont want to see is him scoring any runs.

I started this thread and give him the kiss of death. I was kind of hoping it would last a little longer.

A: Chase Utley

Q: What do you need to do before you can catch Utley?

Good to see Carnac and his hermetically sealed mayonnaise
jar is still around.
