Kick ass! That rules. Good pickup by the Ducks. (Not that they need help selling tickets.) Looking forward to the inevitable Fonzie Bobblehead Night.

Signed to Minor League Deal

Cordero
Pleasing how MLB keeps these mugshots around for my use when the guy hasn't had a big-league at-bat in over a year and a half.

He looks a little too much like a meaner bulkier version of Robbie Alomar for my tastes.

Jarhead action.

Two peeps I hoped would get a longer look were Abreu and Nickeas. There's a good chance they might need either or both this season.

- Pelfrey is being given a real chance to outpitch Park for the 5th slot in the rotation

- Green better start hitting, or Milledge might take his slot in RF. In which case, if they don't trade or buy out Green, he'll either cost Newhan a spot on the bench, or we'll be going with 6 in the pen, instead of 7.

- Smith and Soler may have forced their way into the bullpen picture, at the expense of Sosa, Adkins and/or Burgos, with Sanchez likely starting on the DL. Padilla will start pitching in games this weekend.

So, Adkins is doing everything he can to pitch his way out of the picture.

If he can't get right, I've got Pelfrey (5 scoreless innings, bumping Park to the pen?), Smith (5 scoreless) or Vargas (4 scoreless).

Soler
Cut loose.

Like a deuce.

Another runner in the night.

And maybe that Andy Tracy is merely in the minor league camp but got intto a few games when the squad was split and they needed reinforcements.

Anybody wondering if another transaction is coming on top of this? It's good news if your name is Pelfrey. Or Humber. Mulvey even.

- Wright is getting a serious look in the #2 slot. Hallelujah!

- Pelfrey seems to be pitching his way into the 5th slot in the rotation. should Park stick over Sosa as a long-man/spot-starter?

- Green has started hitting, but should they carry Ben Johnson over Newhan on the bench?

- Sanchez is likely starting on the DL, and Padilla may, too. Smith may be forcing his way into the bullpen, possibly at the expense of Adkins. Does it make sense to lose Adkins for nothing, to keep a kid with options in the pen?

Amen! Preach it!

]- Pelfrey seems to be pitching his way into the 5th slot in the rotation. should Park stick over Sosa as a long-man/spot-starter?

Pelfrey seems to be. if his other pitches are consistent enough - i think we gotta wait till the end of the month to know for sure if the consistency is there, or close enough to being there.

Park over sosa for longman? Park has been doing pretty well this spring, but again, it's only 2 outings.

]- Green has started hitting, but should they carry Ben Johnson over Newhan on the bench?

Newhan's versatility gets him the job.

They love the sidearm delivery. if he is really that sick and useful for situational spots, yes it makes sense. mets are ready to win now. no sense in not using the best arms because one guy has options and the other guy doesn't.

Guys who the Mets' site says are in camp, haven't been appearing in games, but I haven't come upon a press clip saying they've been re-assigned.

  • Wil Cordero

  • Derek Lee

  • Mike Bynum (actually not noted on the site as being in camp, but the last clip I found --- about his signing --- said he was)

  • Jose Santiago (see Bynum)

  • Steve Schmoll (actually has four innings pitched this spring)

Trying to clean up here.

Adkins and Sosa are right on the bubble right now. Nothing went right today, losing by a combined 22-0.

Smith (2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER vs. Baltimore today) is no lock either. Still missing (and presumed farmed out) are Wil Cordero, Derek Lee, Mike Bynum, and Jose Santiago.

That's another one found.

Sierra was also granted his release today.

Good inning by Adkins today with his job on the line, but I'd say Vargas and Urdaneta are this close to grabbing his roster spot.

- Pelfrey has definitely grabbed the 5th slot, but he is likely to be left off the roster for the first 2 weeks, since they won't need a 5th starter during that period.

That will leave open the option of carrying Milledge on the bench during that period. He may well play his way into Green's job. Otherwise, if they don't carry a RHed hitting Ofer on the bench, who subs for Green on D, or when he continues to suck? Easley?

Who gets the 6th SPer/long man slot in the pen: Park, Sele, Sosa or Vargas?

- Sanchez will be starting on the DL, and Padilla will, too. Smith has forced his way into the bullpen, and Burgos (with options) may have pitched his way out of it.

Do we cut or trade Adkins, or keep him as the 12th man? Without Mota, Sanchez or Padilla, and with Burgos ineffective, we are short of RHed relievers. Does Urdaneta get a serious look?

Why Vic double my work?

Posted

because, personally, I find your chart unviewable, with its many colors and photos, and its too spread out. While you project a possible 25-man roster, you don't break them down into L/R, or suggest a lineup or roles for the relievers.

So I sporadically present my list as a simpler take, but with more info, in order to posit new questions on the development of the roster as it proceeds thru ST.

My list obviously overlaps with your work (and an estimable job you do!), but i just find it more useful for me, and maybe some others might, too (or not).

Edgy,
During yesterday's game, one of the radio guys said the Mets currently have 38 players on their 40 man roster.

We know you've maintained this list very carefully.

D'ya think that's because Pedro and someone else have already been placed on the 60 day DL?
