Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Yeah, you've got me on Mendez. I have him down here on my desktop version, but he's been thus far camera shy.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 There we go:He's from Las Matas de Farfan, one of those small Domican towns that exports far more than their share of Major Leaguers, including Juan Encarnacion. I can't figure out what this cool name means. The Spanish had a light infantry brigade called the farfanes. So does it translate to "The Fights of the Light Horseman"?

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I think the Mets are optomistic that Padilla repeats some of that 2005 success. I am. Wouldn't be shocked to see him crack the opening day roster. One wonders if Dave Williams' spot on that 40-man is safe, as well. If they've already got Park, Sosa, Vargas, Soler -- in addition to Humber and Pelfrey -- exactly how many "backup" options do you need on the roster... ?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I think they're prohibited from removing injured guys from the roster. What they could have done is placed him on the 60-Day DL, however.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 ="Edgy DC"]I think they're prohibited from removing injured guys from the roster. What they could have done is placed him on the 60-Day DL, however.Baseball rules say that players on the 60 day DL had to be placed on the 40 man roster prior to the Rule V draft. Also- did anyone see this? No info on whether this guy has to be added to the 40 man roster:]Mets claimed RHP Marcos Carvajal off waivers from the Devil Rays.2/15/07 3:00 PM Carvajal is a bigger loss for the Rays than either of the two prospects the team actually traded for Jae-Kuk Ryu. The 22-year-old had a 3.86 ERA and a 69/39 K/BB ratio in 72 1/3 IP for Double-A Montgomery last season and a 2.19 ERA in 37 innings in Venezuela over the winter. While he hasn't made as much progress as hoped since spending 2005 in the majors with the Rockies as a Rule 5 pick, he still could be a fine short reliever in time. The Mets will have him begin the year in Double- or Triple-A.Later

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Williams was/is on the 40 man roster. His "injury" was after last year's Rule V draft. So he could be placed on it now to protect a 40 man roster spot. But if his rehab takes longer then expected, he would have to be placed back on the 40 man roster prior to next year's draft.Interesting note. I believe that a player cannot be released directly from the DL. So, if a player's injury is so severe that they cannot play any more, the team must recall the player to the 40 man roster. And if the roster is full, they would theoretically have to cut another player to make room for the injured one before they could cut him. Later
Guest abogdan Guests Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Nice pickup of Carvajal. I'm surprised no one else grabbed him. He had a crazy 3.78/7.29 home/away ERA split in Colorado two years ago. I think we'll be hearing from this guy sometime this season.
