I've seen the prequels a few times. Sure, the dialogue is bad, and the directing was probably worse, but there is no excuse for those performances. Her "romantic" scenes with Anakin...they're unspeakably bad.

As far as peaking, I haven't seen a lot of the stuff on that list, but from what I remember, she was ok in Garden State. Awful in Closer.

I dunno. I think any actress would've been just as unspeakably bad in those scenes. Or worse. I don't blame her.

'Course, I also don't WANT to blame her because she's a button.

I recognize the site of that last image, it's David Letterman's set in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

I think the only time I've ever seen Natalie, other than on Dave's show, was her brief role in Cold Mountain.

she broke thru as a kid with her performance in THE PROFESSIONAL, which is a terrific movie. After another great performance in BEAUTIFUL GIRLS, the only things she's been even decent in are GARDEN STATE and V FOR VENDETTA.

I do not hold the STAR WARS movies against her. Lucas' total inability to direct actors is self-evident (even in the original trilogy), and only the greatest actors in the world (Alec Guiness, James Earl Jones) could survive his awful dialogue. Even such excellent actors as Liam Neeson and Ewen McGregor barely rise above mediocrity. Portman is beautiful and talented but lacks the requisite skill to rise above Lucas' prattle (the same for the male manniquen who played Anniken). I haven't seen her in CLOSER yet, but i've got the dvd at home, waiting to be watched.

I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt for a while longer, before consigning her to the "child actor who didn't make the transition" scrap heap.

I saw Mars Attacks and didn't even remember her being in it. I haven't seen anything else on that list other than the horrible Star Wars wannabes

To me her baring all is not a big deal, anyway I liked the movie and loved the song in it.....
