Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 The Crane Pool Forum was born on May 20, 2001. Any ideas on how to celebrate its (our?) fifth birthday go in this thread.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Sometimes we even act our age, don't we? I've been here about a year and a half, and I've had a lot of fun. Thanks to the mods for keeping this place afloat.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 What about the rockers? We helped too.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 For some reason I thought this would garner more interest than it has.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 After five years you'd think we would have run out of things to talk about.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 The CPF only sort of existed for it's first six months or so.I always treat November 1st, 2001 as it's birthday as an ongoing forum. For whatever reason it started to pick up steam during the belated WS that year.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Yes, for the first six months the CPF was intended as a place for regulars at Metsonline Fan Forum to bug out when the MOFo was overrun with Yankees trolls. It didn't get used much during that time. Then there was the Great Forum Wars and since CPF was already here a lot of people just started posting here regularly.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I don't know about you guys, but I am going to celebrate by getting real drunk tonight and then tearfully apologizing to my gf for getting so drunk.
Guest KC Guests Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 One of the things I find sentimentaly amusing is some of the terminologythat has grown out of doing this for so many years. Paulie a post, TheGreat Forum Wars, NOW!!! - and plenty of people know exactly what youmean.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Not mention assclown, lousy cheapass organization (lcao), . (for Avi), and suckitude.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 "Yes, for the first six months the CPF was intended as a place for regulars at Metsonline Fan Forum to bug out"Not all the regulars, just you elitist swine who wanted to talk about others behind their backs. Where's that cross avatar when you need it?Actually, October 30th looks like the date things started to get rollingOf course, I like to think of November 7th as the day it really became a forum because, well until I started posting what good was it?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Special prize to anyone who can find the first thread from May 2001 at Ezboard (if it still exists).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 This is the earliest I can find - having already found MY first post.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 I'm pretty sure there was one earlier one with comments on the brown & mustard orange color scheme that was used for the first couple of days. It must be lost to the ether.
Guest KC Guests Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 How could I forget assclown? Jeez, I use that word at work two three times a day.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Sometimes I think back about all those forum arguments and have trouble believing they actually happened. It all seems so silly now. I mean, it seemed silly then too, but many years removed I can't even remember what the hot topics were.In any case, it seems to have all ended well as MOFO ended up generating two successful spinoffs. Now posters can choose a forum that best suits their tastes.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Three actually if you count the Overtime.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 We need a guest appearance by 52. Now THAT would be intriguing.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I was counting Overtime as one of the spinoffs, CPF being the other. Is there a third?

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Happy Birthday to the CPF, glad I found it,I used to post at Mets.com ,what a nightmare,I remeber one poster telling people that he was going to commit suicide, this went on for weeks.....I hated that place.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Centerfield wrote:I was counting Overtime as one of the spinoffs, CPF being the other. Is there a third? The NY Sports Daily or whatever they're calling themselves these days.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Oh, I was still calling that the MOFO.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Ah, I see the Crane Pool Forum, The Overtime and NY Sports Daily all as spinoffs of the dearly departed Mets Online Fan Forum. I guess the NY Sports Daily Mofo and the Mets Online Fan Forum are akin to Starship and Jefferson Airplane. There's a continuity and some of the same members but really they're different bands.

I'm sure it has more meaning to most of us than it does to the members of the other MOFO spinoffs.

Well he read it, and I guess didn't feel the need to sign upAh well...
