DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Was that AB as bad as GameCast made it look?
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Gwreck - "Does Julio hit?..."Not too well apparently.

Guest GYC Guests Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Listening to Diamondback's game on streaming radio - ex-Met Tim Hamaluck hits Luis Gonzalez in the head.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 Ouch. IIRC, Hamulack was ejected in a game earlier in the season for throwing a retalliation pitch (hitting Bonds).OE: Not meaning to imply that Hamulack would intentionally throw at someone's head.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Meanwhile, the Padres have a mini rally going in the bottom of the ninth.Barfield - K, but reaches 1st on a wild pitch.Giles - E5Piazza - singles to load the bases with no outs. A GIDP would be nice.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Hell of an outing for Julio.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Good game, good thread, good night.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Another bases loaded no out jam that was gotten out of.Good appearance by Julio.Great team win.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Mets back into a tie for best record in MLB with last year's pennant winners.Yes, it's only April...
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 ...but it's still nice to have the best record in baseball.Good game, thanks Pedro for showing once again you're worth every penny of the $15 million we pay you.
The Big O Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I like this Pedro fellow. I used to like the ESPN gamecast of 4-5 years ago, but have stuck with MLB since. Still the superior interface.I agreed until this year. ESPN Gamecast has improved by leaps and bounds and is now WAAAAY better then MLB Gameday.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 ESPN gamecast has a much improved look this year, but it is usually anywhere from 1 to 3 batters behind MLB in my opinion.
Guest abogdan Guests Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 ESPN's is much better this year, but it's just toooo big for my tastes. I can have the MLB gamecast in the corner of my screen and still have plenty of room on my screen to do other work. With ESPN's size and layout it's much tougher to do that.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I ran ran ESPN gamecast and MLB Gameday side by side last night for the final 3 innings. There was no appreciable difference between the two as far as the speed with which they posted pitches and results.. Pinch hitters and pitching changes were noted a little quicker on ESPN. The one thing I found annoying with MLB Gameday, was the ads being run between innings. I truthfully preferred the silent dimming of the screen employed by ESPN. Overall, I didn't notice much difference between the two other than their aesthetics and layout.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I think the game-cast (or whatever they call it) at CBSportsline.com is better than either of them. The others are too "busy" and the fact that they're far too interested in getting you to participate in their links, pop-ups, fan polls, and all other sorts of interactive cross-promotional nonsense makes them tougher/slower to both load and use. Both the MLB & ESPN sites make my computer throw up at times.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I just read through this thread and am surprised that no one caught another of Mex's comments that I found interesting. He and Gary were talking about the 14 inning affair from the night before and of course the 16 innining playoff game against Houston came up.Keith said that that game was so tense and stressful that he went through a full 2 & 1/2 packs of cigarettes over the course of the game. 2 & 1/2 packs! When Gary expressed surprise that he was able to continue playing while inhaling all of that crap. Keuith said that when he woke up the next morning he could barely breathe.Side note: According to Keith he hasn't had a cancer stick in 11 years.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 In his book on the '85 season; 'If At First', Keith often admits to going through a lot of ciggies during a game (half-pack, maybe a pack?) but usually only a few puffs from each - more for nerve purposes than anything else. 2-1/2 is certainly way over the top but I wonder how "much" of them he actually had.]: According to Keith he hasn't had a cancer stick in 11 yearsWell there was no way he was getting past 1st base with Elaine if he didn't quit.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Here is the amazing part...if Keith smoked 2.5 during the game, presumably he had a few before it as well. Pearlman's book details how they partied on the plane (ripping it apart) and then went out afterwards. I'm guessing his total for that 24 hour period must have been around 4 packs.
