nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2007 Author Posted April 5, 2007 he was one of my 8 keepers actually, the guy is a mess but at $16 ($260 budget) i couldnt just let him go. i was upset not to get dan wheeler (he went for like $6 which is too much for a non-closer reliever) to back him up
Guest cooby Guests Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 While checking my lineup today, I found out that one of my players (Tim Salmon) is retired. Why would they even list him during the draft? Boy, do I feel like a schmuck.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 my guess would be he retired with a contract in place and.or didn;'t officially file retirement papers by the time the website built their database for the year....why would you want Salmon anyway?
Guest cooby Guests Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I nabbed him very late in our draft, figuring he would make a good utility player to start out with until I had time to tend to my team. I had him on reserve all week anyway, so either way I lost, but geez. My husband got a good laugh out of it anyway...
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 That's pretty funny, girl. BTW- If you have Darryl Kile in your rotation, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you.
Guest cooby Guests Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I oughta check, they probably have him available, sheesh.
Guest cooby Guests Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 One of my guys, and I wonder why I am plummeting toward last place:Craig Monroe struck out five times Thursday, matching a major league record for a nine-inning game. (Updated 06/14/2007).
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 I'm pretty dead in this league, but my $$$ league is doing ok. I'm in 4th place right now, 11 points behind the leader. the top 5 teams have all traded away keepers to the bottom 5 teams for top players so all the top teams look stacked. I'm now the not-so-proud-owner of Tom Glavine, who i received for a useless (to me) Kevin Kouzmanoff. Phillips and Hart have been great keeper decisions but 2 of my other keepers from last year, Bay and Lidge, have kicked my ass. Lidge has since been dealt along with Berkman to bring back Penny, O.Hudson, and Rowand.anyone else want to keep us updated on their teams? Coobie?
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 in one of my many many other leagues, i'm trading mark teixeira and jason bay for albert pujols and brian mccann.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 who is mccann replacing in your lineup and who goes into bay's spot? that looks like a good trade unless you're benching a good catcher (V-Mart, Mauer)
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 mccann either replaces jason bay directly in my util spot, or mike napoli gets dropped for the best available free agent hitter.also, its a keeper league, and bay, once a keeper of mine, is more replaceable than a mccann, i think.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 most definitely, McCann is a guy to have in keeper leagues, Bay at this point really isn't.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I'm in the championship game in this league. Yahoo Public 105327 (ID# 105327) http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/105327
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 nice. i'm battling for my second championship in three years in my mofo keeper league. http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b2/2739
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I won that league above, I'm proud as punch as it's the first I have ever won, did four leagues this year, tow on yahoo , won one and finished second to last in our league, played two on CBS and lost in the championship matchup in one and didn't make the playoffs in the other.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 4th in my money league, tied for 3rd if Josh Fogg gets a W today (he's not on my team but it would take a half point away from the guy ahead of me)
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 and i win as well, on a tie-breaker.yay, me.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Won a keeper league I started up in 2002. My first win, after blowing the lead on the last day of '02. First prize was $510.Having Wright, Beltran and John Maine, among others, helped my cause.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 heading into year four of the mofo fantasy baseball league (which i've won twice) i had to choose five keepers of the following:brandon webbjohn lackeytravis hafnerchone figginsalbert pujolsnick markakiscurtis grandersonbrian mccannrushed for a decision, i selected webb, lackey, pujols, markakis, and granderson, and immediately cursed myself for leaving hafner unprotected. i had also, in the finals last season, absentmindedly dropped carlos guillen to try for a quick boost in stolen bases for the win. i didn't get the stolen bases i had hoped for, but won anyway, on a tiebreaker. in the first round of the draft, i was sweating bullets, hoping to correct both mistakes. happily, i was able to do exactly that. i forget when mccann was taken, but it was fairly later in the draft, i think, and figgins wasn't taken for a while - conditions i dont expect would've been duplicated for either granderson or markakis - so i think it turned out as well as possible. as for the rest of my team, i have no idea who i ended up with - i can't really check on these things from work anymore. but seven rounds in, i was pretty happy.
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I'm currently getting freakin' schooled in my first H2H league. Sad, sad state of affairs. It's a 20-team league with a bunch of people some of whom claim not even to know much about baseball and they're rocking my world weekly. Everyone on my team is hurt or cold (except Bill Hall, who seems to be cooling off). Not good times.
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 So it turns out I suck at fantasy football. I'm 1-5 right now, after squeaking out a victory this week. Taking Tom Brady with my first round pick was bad luck, but 1-5 doesn't come down to just a QB. I'm consistently lousy. This is my first year playing fantasy football, but I figured I know a bit about football, I have a decent sense of how fantasy sports work, and how hard can it be? Oops. Also, in my baseball H2H league, I juuuuust made the playoffs and ended up 11th out of 20 teams after a very strong end of the season. I'm beginning to hate H2H in all its forms.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2008 Author Posted October 14, 2008 i hate H2H. i'm not doing football at all this year (except for a pick 'em)
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 i won a H2H baseball league, which was some consolation for sucking in the Cranepool league this year. But i agree, 83... i hate H2H.I dont do football, but i'm planning on doing basketball again this year. My boy David Lee is about to have a breakout year, baby!
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 for the third year out of five, i have won the mofo fantasy baseball keeper league. i seem to win every other year. sadly, in prior years, i never received any of my chamionship booty. the first year, i had no address info on my yahoo profile. the next season i updated my address, but finished in teh bottom of the league. when i won in the third year of the league, i had recently moved, but never updated my address. last year i finished dead last. this year, i finished again in first. but now i've got a correct address. i can't wait to get either my bobblehead or t-shirt loot. halfway through the season, i was in 10th place out of 12 teams. i rocketed back into 2nd place for the playoffs, and carried that through to take the title. all while carrying brandon webb on the DL since the dawn of the season. i've only got one stud on my roster in pujols and maybe javy vazquez. the rest of my team looks kindof like a bobby valentine outfield. i'm in great shape to suck next year, continuing a rather intriguing trend.
