My kids have been talking about this for ages. Apparently the Live Journal community has been mocking it mercilessly.

At Impulse2's urging, I made this -

Balancing on a plane is hard enough to do, but that last Snape seems to be levitating at the same time.

I have officially promised the kids that I'm taking them to the movie on Friday. They're stoked, especially after seeing the repeat of Samuel L. Jackson's interview on The Daily Show from last night.

I didn't even look in this thread when it was first posted, but this really made me laugh out loud, to the point where my officemates wondered what happened.

He's a villan in the Harry Potter series.

There are villians in Harry Potter? I thought it was about a bunch of sweet schoolkids

Oh no - there are definite battles between good and evil in the Harry Potter series.

Ohhh...I always wondered why you and your daughter were interested in them. That explains it better.

I just got back from taking the Diamond Knight kids to see this. It was the boys' first R-rated film - we're not going to make a habit of it, but they wanted to see this particular film so badly that I said they could see it.

In a lot of ways this is a throwback to the Airport movies, with a bit of Airplane! added - no cliche is left unturned. It's fun schlock - if nothing else, it's worth it to see Samuel L. Jackson having such a good time playing the larger than life hero.

There are no big surprises here - you'll know from the previews whether you'll enjoy this one or not. If you go, suspend your sense of reality and expect to have a schlocky but fun time.

Samuel L. Jackson wanted more muthaf***in' swearin' in this muthaf***in' movie.

There's that. There's some violence, but not enough to earn an R. There's a Mile High Club scene (I instructed the boys not to look. They're young enough that they complied).

I haven't seen it yet, but my prediction is that they finally rid the plane of snakes by having everyone strap themselves in while opening one of the bulkheads so that the snakes all get sucked out. I can't wait to see if I'm correct.

Is there a guitar playing nun?

No, but the 2006 equivalent of that - a rap/hip hop artist, and his posse.

No songs were performed on the plane, though.

Letterman gets in on the Snakes bandwagon -

Top Ten Things Overheard Outside "Snakes On a Plane"

10. "What's it about?"

9. "So I can't bring a bottle of water on a plane but snakes are OK?"

8. "Hi, two adults and one snake, please"

7. "I didn't care for the 'Snakes in the Theater' promotion"

6. "Maybe we should just go to Times Square and see 'Snakes In My Pants'"

5. "It's still better than sitting next to Regis"

4. "Exact same thing happened to me last time I flew Delta"

3. "I haven't seen a snake that big since the Pamela Anderson/Tommy Lee video"

2. "That guy sitting behind me? Jackass on a cellphone"

1. "No, Mr. Gibson, I'm not Jewish"

So this last night. And...I liked it. Not a masterpiece but has it it's frights and its laughs. And the laughs don't come unintentionally but instead the filmmakers are pretty clever in making a funny disaster movie as opposed to a satire of a disaster movie. Best line: "Sporks?"

And I'm going to contradict Vic and say if you're going to see this movie, see it now in a theater and enjoy the communal experience of watching this summer movie on the big screen. It won't be half as good on tv.
