Draw a stadium

i think i need to make a change to the stadium... and i really wish i brought the visio file home with me for the weekend... (yeah, i drew it to scale in microsoft visio - what of it!).

in my concept sketch, i had the concourse and monster wall at more of an oblique angle, and the bleachers came in more towards the field.

basically what i wanna have happen is balls hitthe wall and carom off into the bleachers for a homerun. with teh angling the way it is, they'd more likely just come off the wall roughly parallel to the back fence. and while that would be wicked to play, its just not interesting enough - or as much potential fun for the fans out there.

i also need to throw some more thought into my stands, as i have no upper deck, and i don't think i have a good enough seating arrangement. i rushed it at the end after i was mostly happy with the outfield fences and pinball alley.

It's good stuff. I drew mine with MS Paint, so...

Where's your scoreboard?

What sort of retail? If the team goes into an attendance slump, will the depression affect the retail row? Will there be a pawn shop? Perhaps a storefront guerrilla theatre company?

i'm thinking banana republic, maybe a container store, and a specialty running store. oh, and of course a starbucks and panera.

the restaurant of course would be open year round, and the stadium would help to anchor a fancy new retail/commercial/entertainment district by bringing fans to the stores, and customers to the games.

that sort of thing.

and yeah, i'm lacking some of the more stadiumly details. they'll come along, of course!

lol@ above^

scoreboard update.
I nixed the seats on top 4 now. They can be added or I could put the NY skyline kinda thing up there,.....I dunno.

and right before a pitch (in real life no one would go for this, I dont think):

I'm a lazy flake, so I didn't draw a NEW met stadium per se, but I'll put up some other ones I've done.

An "inspired by Ebbets Field" park, for a Brooklyn team:

When the Giants come back.. This could be the new Met stadium.

If..gasp..the Red Sox leave Fenway Park:

I think all of 'em rock.

But the Mets have announced another ticket price increase and they have 55,000 seats to sell. Take away 20,000 of them and a game will really shoot beyond the means of Johnny Lunchbucket.

Even if they suck, I'd like to see 8 or 10,000 "cheap seats" in a new Shea park.

Doesn't Meathead do this stuff for a living? Get to work!

This is a fun thread. I used to draw baseball parks in pencil when I was in junior high, often doodle them in my notebooks when I was bored in class. My parks had odd nooks and crannies and unique ways of adapting them to be multi-purpose stadia (won't Edgy be happy I didn't write stadiums!).

I know, I know.

This thread had me real excited when Spaceman started it... then I realized I don't have the time I'd like to spend on it. I'll get to it eventually...

I'm hard at work on a new Met stadium.

...if anyones interested I can provide a bare bones image of a baseball field to build your stadium around.
Ive already done that work so it wouldnt take much to provide a generic field that you can add or subtract from, then build around.

You could use it in anything from MSpaint to AdobePhotoshop or PaintShopPro.

Where you make changes to field shape (id provide just a standard Shea like shaped field), just line and color using the tools provided.
(Like to fill in changes to the grass section of the field, match the green used with the dropper and flood fill or air brush in.)

Awesome work Spaceman! I particularly like the name of your field and stadium. The statues surrounding the park are a wonderful and fitting tribute to the Mets past.

Trying to add up three near-legends in one statue may be seen as something of a jerry-rigging of history.

Casey Stengel might be a more appropriate figure --- or at least represent the early years --- better than Mr. Met. Besides, Mr. Met lives and performs yet; he needs no statue.

The '86 combo is still a pretty good idea. Like many other good things, though, it may have to wait until Dwight Gooden reconciles with the Mets and with a goood portion of society.

Some great concepts, though.

I love it Spaceman.

I might be in the minority here, but I hate little crevices and short walls and all the other stuff designed to give "character".

I'm sure Hernandez, Carter and Gooden met on the mound many a time, and there's probably pictures of it to base a statue on.

Well, my point wasn't that the scene doesn't exist in history.

The other problem with that statue (besides the fact that nobody should want to immortalize Doc) is that a "mound conference" statue would suck, because they'd be facing each other.

Can we make a statue of this?

It would just float in the air.

Who's the mystery Met hugging Mora?

Roger Cedeno. It's 1999 NLCS Game 4 and Oly has just chased them both home with a single to take the lead.

Except that it took place on the road, what about KH, GC and JO going over their options in NCLS Game 6? At least we know that that mound conference led to good things.

Adding my overexcited cheering for the Spaceman's design. You can't tell, but I'm jumping up and down.

One thing I can say about the Mr. Met statue is that from the arial angle, it should look just about exactly like Bong drew it.
