Cranepool Forum Fantasy League 2006?

I'm in, as long as I don't have to be commish. I've been in fantasy leagues for the last 18 years or so, and I've seen lots of variations, but never seen a league ban players from particular teams. Would be interesting, especially if (a) your guy gets traded to the Yankees, or (B) if the Yankees trade away a stud during the season and he becomes a free agent. Seems like it would be hard to deal with, but if I'm not in charge, I'm all for it.

if the yankees traded a guy away i suppose we could give him to the last place team or just say once he's a yankee he's out for the year, alternatively we could just not ban yankkees...it would be amusing to see how low in the draft they finally go and who takes them, same with the braves.

Ill go by whatever you guys set up.
I dont need no stinkin Yahnkees ;)

Im not saying you should do this, but I found that stat wise including triples for batters and complete games for pitchers made it much more interesting because they were kinda rare occurances compared to other stats.

And some weeks a complete game decided a tiebreaker situation catagory wise.
Some weeks no one got a complete game.

I found the more stats the more interesting it was. One of my leagues had minimal stats, just the biggys (like hits/homers/wins/Ks-no doubles or triples, innings pitched, shutout, etc) and it was okay, but not as exciting.

Ill go with however its set up, but thats just some input from me.^

well, thats all assuming a points league, i'm partial to rotisserie style myself (and i HATE head to head which i feel is great for football leagues but not so much so for other sports)

the "standard" 5x5 yahoo league is R/RBI/BA/HR/SB for hitters and WHIP/ERA/W/SV/K for pitchers, but we can of course do whatever we want.

lets give it till the end of the week to get a list of participants before we start debating all our options though, it will help to have seperate threads in the sub forum the edgy has offered, i'm not about to start multiple threads on the subject here as i am very anti-clutter.

I'm in favor of rotisserie style as well.

And I'd be more than happy to co-commish with Nymr.

Let's get that subforum up and running and flesh this out.

I'd be in. It's a little crazy being in multiple leagues, but I'm thinking about punting my other league next season anyway (I spent the last eight seasons as a commissioner, and I'm spent.) FWIW, I'm really impressed with CBS Sportsline's fantasy services; they get better every season. There is a fee, but if we split it among all of us it's not bad -- a $20 entry fee each will cover the site fee and a small prize at the end of the season for the champ.

Screw the "No Yanks/Braves" thing. Too confusing.

Since we're pretty scattered, I'm assuming we'd do some sort of online draft, which would lead itself much more easily to doing a regular snake draft, as opposed to an auction draft.

We've played HTH my entire fantasy baseball career, and I'm definitely ready for a change -- I'd go 5x5.

A snake draft would probably be more efficient. Yahoo's online draft system is fantastic, in my opinion, and would work great if we decide on a snake draft.

It's been more than a dozen years since I've done any fantasy baseballing, and I was a little tempted to jump in, but realistically, I'd probably be one of those who lose interest by Mother's Day, so I'll pass.

I've been commissioner of a league for 6 years now which is kind of a CPF-lite for me as much of the league activity amounts to commentary on various topics. Don't have time in my life for more than that and keeping my posting levels here up to snuff. Roger Mason, indeed.

Oh, and Edgy, please move this as it will clutter up the main board real quick.

i LOVE auctions but that is clearly not the way to go online unless we could all get together for 6 hours (and thats a bare minimum) and find a chat room moderator to run the auction. a snake-draft on yahoo will take 3 hours (with 15-20 people) and you can pre-set your list incase you miss the end.

i've never had a yankee on one of my teams, mostly because every yahoo league has at least one yankee fan who overvalues them by a round or more.
what are you doing up so early valadius? you should never take classes before 11 in college!

i would definetaly have either overslept the 8am or gone back to sleep immediately afterwards so as to wake up for the 2pm...

staying on topic...
with the number of people we have we almost certainly will go with an MLB league (as opposed to NL-only).

i'll start polls and discussions on the other thing we need to decide once we get a subforum up and running.

My lawyer, Matt Murdock, advises me to vote for a:

- Free Yahoo league
- 5x5 Rotisserie-style
- snake draft
- MLB/ all players available

I don't draft Yankees as a rule, so it won't effect me, one way or the other. I just can't stand rooting for any of VonSteingrabber's Luftwaffen.

Fantasy Leagues, Major League Baseball Going To Court Over Use Of Player Stats

1/13/2006 10:17:46 PM

Hundreds of companies sponsor fantasy sports leagues, where the competition is based on a player statistics. One of those companies is taking on an entire league in court.

CBC Distribution, a St. Louis based company that operates fantasy leagues, is suing Major League Baseball for the right to use players names and stats without a license.

CBC claims baseball stats become historical facts when the game is completed. Major League Baseball claims it should have control over that information.

Ben Clark is an intellectual property attorney in St. Louis. "It seems as though this right of publicity, or the right to prevent someone else from benefitting from the use of your name or picture, is the main issue that will be contested in this case," said Clark.

CBC paid Major League Baseball a percentage of royalties from its fantasy league, for the right to use player profiles and statistics.

But baseball took over exclusive rights to license those statistics last year. If this case goes to trial, and Major League Baseball wins, the impact could be far reaching.

"If you are playing in a fantasy league yourself, if you own a trivial pursuit sports game or gamble in Vegas, this decision could impact you if you can play those games as you have before," according to Clark.

That impact would eventually come in the form of money anyone using baseball statistics for profit would have to pay. That's something other leagues would certainly take notice of.

Said Clark, "There seems to be no reason why football or basketball could not argue to have a right of publicity in names and stats."

The court didn't buy that crap from the NBA against Motorola, i doubt they'll buy it now

this is bullshit.

They even want to profit off stats as they happen?
Thats rediculous.
This is taking licencing a bit too far, imo.

I hear ya about Chipper.
But I had Jeter on my team last year.
I let him play back up for Reyes at short.
