Matsui makes a nice play after a 12-pitch at bat by Michaels to hand Glavine his 3rd 1-2-3 inning. He's at 91 pitches now.

Bottom of the 5th, Phillies 2, Mets 0.

Glavine struggled in the 1st, failing to convert a grounder to himself into a double play. He then gave up up a walk to load the bases followed by a 2-run single before striking out Michaels to end the first.

Lieber is crusing through our lineup.

]I think it was Wally Backman, batting right handed, in a day game againstthe Expos in Jarry Park (Maybe Olympic Stadium). He pulled the ball down the left field line for a double.

Nah, Backman never got a righthanded hit.

To be fair, Glavine has pitched pretty well. The problem is that four of the five baserunners he allowed reached in the first.

Diaz & DeFelice down on strikeouts.

A better turn at bat for DiFelice. Took eight pitches to strike out this time. He's 1-16 on the year.

Tbe loss of Piazza is hurting us on these days.

Abreu with a single. Burrell with a deep drive to left, caught by Floyd on the warning track.

That's what made it so memorable. I was driving the my car and listened to Murph's call. He sounded amazed, too.

DeFelice lives up to his catch-and-throw reputation by throwing out Abreu at second.

2 down, Utley up.

Utley Ks. Time for some hits, fellas. Top of the order.

Whaddya think--does Glavine come out for the seventh?

I'm guessing yes.

Reyes with another triple to start things off!!

Matsui gets the job done by grounding out to second.

Hey, our secondbaseman drove in a run!

When was the last time our relief pitcher hit a grand slam?

Matsui pads his rbi stats. Beltran, Floyd, yuck. 2-1.

Then Beltran with a shallow fly. 2 down.

I better slow down posting results, I might ruin something for ya'll later in the game.

First-pitch swinging AGAIN, Floyd pops it up.

Jesus, even when we score, we make it easy on Lieber. 6 pitches that inning.

Diaz with another exciting near-miss for out 2.

Manuel is arguing that he trapped it.

Posted

Nah, Edgy, you have to be more sarcastic about it:

Remember that time they let Juan Padilla hit and he drove in the winning run? Ah, the good old days.

Manuel barking as he heads back to the dugout, and he gets thrown out by home plate ump Young.

Huh. Apparently, Manuel wasn't the one ejected. Must have been someone else--hopefully Abreu or Burrell. Or Lieber.

Manuel still in the dugout, someone on the bench got tossed.

The playoff gods show that perhaps Diaz got a lucky call.

Glavine get through the seventh, has thrown over a 125 pitches. 2-1 and they
are stretching.

Glavine walks Pratt, then strikes out Lieber to end the half inning.

Nice outing by Glavine. Pity our offense decided to take a week off.

Wright grounds out.

sigh.

Looks like we're going down quietly.
