Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Paxton Schultz relieved by ... Paxton Schultz! Is Joe Schultz managing?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 So, is this the Vidal Brujan game? Confusion about the position player rule! Centerfield 1
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Love how the umpires don't even know the rule. FFS.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 If Bichette reaches will they walk Soto again?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Kimbrel has done a marathon worth of warming up. Let's send him to the shower and let Duarte finish it.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I don't get the position player pitching decision. The Nats went from probably not winning this game to winning it being the equivalent of an inside straight paired with a lottery ticket.

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Kimbrell is doing his best to send this to the 13th inning.

Which is only a 4 run lead with the free runner. Hard, but not impossible. If the inning played out like it did, they would have had the tying run on deck.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Oh ,c'mon, Kimbrel gave up 2 hits and an unerned run with a 12 run lead. Let's not act as if this was us being forced to run a gauntlet. a response to earlier posts

The only thing that kept me from betting the farm on Kimbrel was that he finished the game before my bookie picked up the phone.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 19 Posted May 19 The Marlins win also, keeping the Mets out of the coveted 12th place spot. In the division, however, Washington, Miami, and Mets are all within a game and a half of each other. The 12th-inning run barrage also closes the Mets' run differential on the season to -7.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 What the hell happened? I went to bed when at the end of 11 innings, amazing
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Caught it on the replay, Bichette's hit was on a 40.2 mph curveball from Rivas. That's like slow-pitch softball.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted May 19 Posted May 19 What the hell happened? I turned off the game in the tenth, assuming the Mets were gonna Mets it up, and just saw the box score this morning.

I think the software just identifies such pitches as curveballs. Arc-ed lobs from slow-pitch softball is indeed a better description, even if they are overhand.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I suppose that, usually, by the time a game gets to the point where a position player is on the mound, I've turned off the game. Was Rivas' approach typical? Lazy throws from the mound? I think if it was me, I'd try to throw line drives. Or do they always go with "lazy throws" to avoid wear-and-tear on the player's arm?

It really depends on the position player. But yeah, lots of guys just lob 'em in there. It's so awful to watch. I'm starting to come around to the idea of a blowout pitcher. It's Time To Get Rid Of Position Players Pitching And Bring On The BOP - MLB - DiamondCentric DIAMONDCENTRIC.NET I have always accepted position players pitching as a necessary evil, as well as something fun to watch during a game that has otherwise lost all viewing pleasure. But then James McCann...
