I'd say Benge and Ewing have not faced a pitcher this tough before, maybe one or twice but still

Well, they might have faced Schlittler himself in the minors.

But hey, tying run at the plate!

So Howie hasn't seen Star Wars, hasn't seen The Princess Bride, doesn't really know what either of them are about, but he quotes Stripes with glee?

Bo Bichette is fucking garbage.

There really aren't any other graphics I can share that don't make me ashamed of my search terms.

Just forcing the Yanks to (a) us Bednar here and (b) stretch him with three ninth-inning hits is a small victory.

(Damn it, Semien, DON'T SWING!)

I’ve seen those movies, but I still quote stripes. It brings back memories of Army basic training. And that’s a fact, jack.

Unfortunately, moral victories mean little in the standings.

Oh, they can mean something on the standings.  Making a guy throw more pitches today takes him out of games further down the road.

That's how the Mets swept the Detroit series — draining their bullpen in game one.

In a game where pitches are nigglingly counted and pitch counts, inning counts and up-downs are passionately curated, making your opponent throw one more pitch matters.  Ewing taking a 3-1 pitch three times only to walk or get a hit on the 3-2 pitch?  That's a license to print money.

That's how you end up facing the other team's backup pitcher on the mound in the late innings of game three.

I understand your point, Edgy.  It definitely has some validity, but it is sad that we, as Mets fans, are reduced to pulling for moral victories, as opposed to actual victories.  This team desperately, needs to win games, but I don't see that happening consistently.

I believe that this Mets team is too limited offensively and too short of starting pitching to make a realistic playoff run.  I felt the odds of such a run were exceedingly small before Holmes injury last night, but at this point I think this team will do well to win 82 games this season.

As I noted, though, it is the path to actual victories.

Semien swinging at the first pitch in the ninth last night was the path to failure.
