A different IGT writer after a win is upsetting the balance of my Universe.

This is the whole season right here in this series.

if the Mets show up and show out, and fucking fight, - I don’t necessarily mean win, but fight, scratch, claw for it - then I believe they can pilot in another grimace run

On the other hand, if they lay down, bend over, and/or get on their knees - then there’s simply no reason to turn on another Mets game this year.

no pressure, guys. No pressure!

I'll look at this year like I did in 1983 when Strawberry came up. The team finished with a terrible record (they were 5th or 6th) but the excitement he generated gave hope for the future and a reason to watch games. I'm getting the same vibe from Benge and Ewing.

Tomorrow Rodon vs Mothra or TBD 7:15

Sunday Weathers vs Peralta 1:40

The Yankees have lost 6 of 8 while the Mets have won 3 straight

The Yankees promoted hyped prospect Spencer Jones but he has done little

Schlittler and Holmes have ERA's under 2

The Mets will be playing better teams for awhile now

It will be interesting to see how the Mets do against a team with a winning record.  They have primarily been playing teams with losing records (or at most barely treading water at the .500 mark).  To say they have not fared well in the games against teams with winning records would be an understatement.  The Mets were swept in 3 game series against the A's, Dodgers and Cubs.

I am hoping for better against the Yankees.

I thought FMan was going to do a KTE but maybe the censors deleted his submission.

I think the key to holding the Yanx 4th best offense (5.07 RS/G) down may actually be to keep the lousy hitters off base. They've got a kind of A-Team/B-Team going on in their lineup so if you can keep the bases empty when the big boys are up it can at least limit the damage.

Really good this year: Judge, Ben Rice (both over 1,000 OPS) and also Cody Bellinger. Rice has over half of his hits go for XB (22 of 40) and nearly 1/3 are HRs (13). But those are the only three active starters sporting an OPS+ over 100. [181, 197, 137] (also Amed Rosario and Paul Goldschmidt but they're part-timers).

On the flip side of the coin is both catchers [Wells = 67 OPS+, Escarra = 47], 2B Jazz Chisholm [69], 3B Ryan McMahon [62], CF Trent Grisham [89] and now newly recalled SS Anthony Volpe, the 2023 RoY/GG who has fallen out of favor, seemingly with both mgmt and fans, and was injured/demoted until a recent injury to Jose Cabellaro.

Ashie mentioned the recent debut of 25 y/o (yesterday) Spencer Jones who is promising and gives them a matching bookend to Judge (Jones is 6' 7"/245) but is just getting started at 1/12 w/6 Ks

On the pitching side they're 3rd best in MLB [3.5 RA/G] led by Schlittler, and good seasons so far from Ryan Weathers, Will Warren, and the now IL'd Max Fried. In the pen their main set-up corps seem to be the strength rather than the two guys they dealt for at last year's trading deadline, David Bednar and Camilo Dovel closer(s)

Has anybody made up a ridiculous Spencer Jones homerun call in tribute to John Sterling:

"There it goes!  Call the orthopedist 'cuz it's a JONES FRACTURE!!"

Ninety years ago, Dizzy Dean hurt his foot, and by adjusting his delivery due to the pain, supposedly hurt his arm.

And ever since then, every time a pitcher gets hit in the foot, the announcers will warn us that this might hurt his arm, because Dizzy Dean.

Now maybe there have been other cases in the interim, but they sure never cite any.

Bob Bichette is gonna have to be dropped into the less lustrous part of the lineup.

Two for his last 29.
