What do we do now?

It’s crazy to be out of it so early. There are times I hit a level of apathy on a lost season. I don’t remember ever hitting that point in April. But here we are. When the Mets lost yesterday I was disappointed to hear it, but it wasn’t gut wrenching. It didn’t ruin my day. I’m not counting down to the next game to flush out the bad taste. What a fucking disaster. 
 

Anyway.  Here’s what I would do now. 
 

*Play Ronny, Baty, Vientos, Benge every day. Against righties/lefties, whatever.  Let’s try to see what they actually are. All of them play the field as much as possible. Try Benge in CF. 
 

*Call up Morabito while Robert is on the IL. If he’s good you cut Tyrone Taylor when Robert comes back. 
 

*Start Christian Scott. 
 

*keep starting Peterson. Of the three starting pitching busts, I feel like he’s the most likely to find it. 
 

*DH Soto indefinitely. Give him his rest too. No need to push him in a lost season. 
 

*remind ourselves that it wouldn’t be bad to get a high draft pick for a change.

Melendez - Morabito - Benge across the outfield (Melendez is only 27 - let's ride this train)
Bichette - Mauricio - Semien - Clifford across the infield (we know Semien isn't going anywhere)
Alvarez/Torrens
Soto DH (and LF when we feel like it)
Bench: Pache, Brujan, Taylor, I guess?

Rotation is Peralta, Holmes, McLean, Scott, Tong in some order.
Bullpen is Williams, Myers, Brazoban, Weaver, Raley, Kimbrel, Pintaro, Minter.

That's your 26.

1. End the Baty and Vientos experiments. We tried, fellas. Trade them for spare parts and call up Pache and Brujan.
2. If you can trade Peralta and Holmes for exciting young arms this summer, go for it.
3. Eat the salaries of Manaea and Peterson and call up Pintaro and Minter, who appears to be ready.
4. I'm excited about how AJ Ewing has started in Syracuse, and I could probably be convinced to swap him in for Semien and let Semien serve as a pinch-hitter.
5. I don't know that Kimbrel needs to be here either at this point, so you could DFA him whenever the first bat comes back from the DL.

I'm getting there as well but still would wait awhile. You don't need almost a whole season to bring guys up to see what they have or don't have. Certainly open to a major trade for pitching or power in middle of our lineup.

I'd play Ewing a few games more at second to see if he can do it, but I like the idea.

I agree. There’s nothing to lose if the youngsters get some playing time. 
Or all of it
