Clay Holmes vs J.T. Ginn.  Time to get off the schneid and end this two game losing streak.

Presumably McNeil gets a nice response from the fans in his first turn at bat.

Opening day was 70 degrees. Since then all of our home games have been cold. Maybe our hitters don’t like the cold.

I don't know that Jeffy will get an ovation

I'm not impressed by the Mets so far. Polanco is sketchy and Benge is working himself to triple AAA

Among other issues

McNeil's career hits as a NYM slots him just ahead of Carlos Beltran and just behind Keith Hernandez.

RETIRE HIS NUMBER NOW!!!!

1st & 2nd, no one out ... and they hit TWO GiDP balls!!

I think this means they start the next inning with one out.

This was still a winnable game. Mendoza has no feel for the pitching.

Stayed with Senga too long. Pulled McLean too early. Hung Myers out to dry.

Jared Young batting third. I like that

I assume that’s some sort of message Mendoza is sending to Stearns about the lack of depth on this team.

Did you guys hear Mendoza justify Lindor’s baserunning last night?  That’s crazy to me. You can’t be erased from third like that.

The way I understand it, on that ball you take a secondary lead but don’t break for home until the throw goes to second. It’s very unlikely that the SS would throw you out on a tag play at home.  It’s unlikely he would even try.  He has to come across the bag and completely turn his body to get anything on a throw home. A fast runner like Lindor scores easily.

This is like the ridiculous send in the Pittsburgh game. Acknowledge the mistake so it doesn’t happen again.

inexcusable.

I was thinking about this more in contrast to the early May 2024 game against the Cubs in which Alonso was called out at the plate trying to score the tying run in the bottom of the 9th on a sac fly.  And Mendoza didn’t hold back, or say “yeah, we could’ve scored more runs earlier” (which is true) — instead he was clear that he though the umpires had the call wrong and that was the deciding factor.  I remember being very impressed with that answer and the candor.

The Pittsburgh game continues to bother me since it was so clearly in-the-moment the wrong decision, and all he had to do was say “yeah, a mistake, it won’t happen again.”  But no such candor to be had.
