Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 29 Posted March 29 ROAD TRIP!!!! First one of the year (Duh!) - 7:45 EDT Monday Night start:; Clay Holmes vs Kyle Leahy. This will be the third full ML season for the soon-to-be 29 y/o RH Leahy who started in 2024 [33 starts, 4.07 ERA; 1.03 WHIP] then worked almost exclusively out of the bullpen in '25 [62 G, 88 IP, 3.07 / 1.23] As for the rest of the lineup, the Cardinals, after 71 wins in '23, 83 in '24, and 78 in '25, are in full-out rebuild mode under new PoBO Chaim Bloom. Gone from the '25 squad are the likes of Willian Contreras, Brendan Donovan, Nolan Arenado, and Sonny Gray. All of which leaves a mostly under-30* roster all over but not a lot of recognizable names beyond SS Masyn Winn and massive disappointment (to date) Jordan Walker in RF. Even fan fave Lars Nootbaar (cuz who doesn't like a good Nootbaar after lunch?) is on the 60 day IL to start the year. Cards took 2 of 3 in their first series at home vs TBR, all of them high-scoring for whatever that's worth: 9-7 (W), 6-5 (W in 10), 11-7 (L) on Sunday. The only ex-factor is StL being the current home for Ryne Stanek * P - Riley O'Brian, 31; P - Ryne Stanek, 34; 3B - Ramon Urias, 32 ... that's it, that's the over-30 portion of the roster!
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Nice weather the first two days in St. Louis but 80% chance of rain Wednesday is potentially problematic.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Thanks for honoring the important new standard of getting the IGT up early. Looking forward to seeing what color the box turns when a reliever reaches 40 pitches.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 There are two catching Contreri and the one no longer there is the one who is a real pain in the tuchus against the Mets (slipping comfortably into the Yaddy F'n Molina roster spot). Glad they won't be seeing him in this series. Later
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I've been slacking. I haven't watched a single highlight of this season yet. I get more into it when I buy MLB TV at a discount sometime around May.

Usually, I'll have the charts and whatnot up a lot earlier than today; it's spring break, and I had to take the youngest to TWO doctor appointments this morning. Red is as far as the color spectrum goes.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Lindor SS Soto RF Bichette 3B Polanco DH Baty RF Young 1B Semien 2B Benge CF Alvarez C —- Everyone raise your hand if you expected Jared Young (!) to get a start before Vientos or Tyrone Taylor.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Vientos does seem to be the forgotten man so far....
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Vientos will get his belts in. Plenty of lefties ahead.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Surprised Lieper didnt send Lindor on the triple
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Scored the run, which is what they had to do there.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 My SNY feed from within the MLB app on the TV is a beat out of sync and it's super annoying

Young needs more than 117 career plate appearances in the majors to show what he can do. His minor league career has been impressive enough that an odd start while he is up is worth looking at.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Fluffernutters! I loved Fluffernutters!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I have never heard of them until now Nice at bat from Benge who finds a hole

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Maybe that great new offensive approach was a mirage.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Yes same , it was fine over the weekend series, but I noticed it right away tonight when Gary and Keith opened the show and the mouth and words were a hair off
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Bo Bichette is so unfamiliar with hitting the ball suddenly that he puts one into the gap and falls down.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Jared Young! A guy who’s insertion into the lineup I did not question at all!
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
