kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Does this count as a 'meaningful game in September?'
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Sniffle-sniffle through four...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Pirates win a challenge, and the Reds' first run of the game is overturned and the runner is out at the plate.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 But then the Reds quickly plate two runners. At least it wasn't three.And... a new pitcher for the Pirates.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 A sweep was going to be a tall order. Mets are just going to have to win themselves.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 The Reds' starting pitching is the real deal. Even beyond Hunter Greene, they get a well pitched game seemingly every night.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Their starter is coming out in the 7th with a possible injury. Maybe the Pirates can get to the Reds' bullpen.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Going into the eighth. Pirates still down by two.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Pirates get a leadoff double from the 7 hitter, who then advances to third on a groundout.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Another groundout brings home the run, but now the bases are empty with two out. 2-1 Reds.Am I the only one watching this game?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 I’m out of the house and can’t watch, so I’ll depend on you. Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Last stand for the Pirates. Down by one run going into the top of the ninth. The 2-3-4 hitters are due up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Author Posted September 25, 2025 That could be a season-saving catch for the Reds!!Reds Win!!
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 That was some serious larceny by The Other Marte...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Brian Reynolds robbed of a game-tying homer, then shortly after, the third out. Reds win, 2-1.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Author Posted September 25, 2025 For those not watching: a HR-stealing catch for out #2 by Noelvi Marte in RF, quickly followed by a more routine one for the final out.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Meanwhile, Dodgers are up 4-0 over the Diamondbacks.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Dodgers are now up 8-0 over Arizona. (Two-run homer by Freddie Freeman.)
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 The D'backs are getting their petunias plucked, so there's that...
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Author Posted September 25, 2025 So the Reds lost two of three, and the Snakes look like they're about to lose two of three. It would be real boost to the campaign here if we didn't follow them into that same rabbit hole.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 For those not watching: a HR-stealing catch for out #2 by Noelvi Marte in RF, quickly followed by a more routine one for the final out. I was watching, and working a zig saw puzzleThat was a fantastic play

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Mathematicians! With the DBacks losing our odds must be better now, yes?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 I probably have this wrong, as it is late and I am tired, but I calculate 64 possible outcomes. Assuming a 50/50 chance of either team winning each game, the [MetsBlue]Mets[/MetsBlue] come out on top in 34 of the scenarios (53.13%), the Reds take the spot in 24 versions (37.50%), and the Diamondbacks triumph in 6 (9.38%).That adds up to 100.01% but rounding does that sort of thing. The Mets would look better if they held any tie-breakers, but, alas, they do not.Of course, it is not a 50/50 chance of either team winning each game. The Reds and Diamondbacks are facing clearly better teams, but as they are also teams safely in the playoffs, they have incentive to give their starters short workdays. On the other hand, the Padres could still climb to a higher seed, and the Brewers could still fall to a lower one, so maybe they play for reals.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 The Reds and Diamondbacks are facing clearly better teams, but as they are also teams safely in the playoffs, they have incentive to give their starters short workdays. On the other hand, the Padres could still climb to a higher seed, and the Brewers could still fall to a lower one, so maybe they play for reals. The Brewers have a magic number of 1 to clinch best record in MLB/home field in every round. But, they also have 5 days off coming up so they don’t really need to rest anyone. The Padres are 2 games behind the Cubs for the #4 seed and home field in the wild card. Padres would hold the tiebreaker if they catch Chicago.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Thank you for confirming what I was too tired to do more than speculate about. The Pads and Brews have a good reason to go pretty hard. Good show.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2025 Author Posted September 27, 2025 Reds out in top 7, leading 3-1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2025 Author Posted September 27, 2025 Brewers out in bottom 7Reds go 1 - 2 - 3 in top 8
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2025 Author Posted September 27, 2025 Santillan in for Cincy in bottom 8 who, as far as I can figure, has pitched like nine days in a row.Out - Walk - ???
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2025 Author Posted September 27, 2025 The answer to those question marks above is G-I-D-PTop 9, still 3 - 1 Cincy
