Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 16 Posted October 16 And now, with the NL series ending so quickly, all the remaining AL games are scheduled for 8 PM EDT [Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday ... with Mon & Tue having the always popular 'if necessary' caveat.]
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Gees Us. We like to watch while eating supper not while we’re asleep MFS62 1
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16 Posted October 16 And yet the Brewers will sit around playing grabass for a week while the ALCS plays out. Postseason scheduling is mad dumb.

whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Actually forgot to mention that on a jigsaw puzzle facebook page that I frequent, a lady mentioned she had a busy day ahead, a book club, a jigsaw puzzle club and a Brewers watch party. The thread then turned into a Brewers/Guardians romp thread! We all want this!

Was hoping for the Rays, as if its a Game 7er, and they’d win, that would mean when I get to Tampa on Monday, November 2nd, that’d be when the parade is happening! But sounds like all parties are in St Pete going forward until the Tampa stadium opens, so 🤷🏻♂️ MFS62 and whippoorwill 2

Postseason scheduling is mad dumb. I’m happy to criticize MLB for dumb stuff but this one is out of their hands. Not much you can do when one series is a sweep and another goes longer. Compounding the issue is that they stagger the start of the NLCS and ALCS by one day (it alternates leagues each year). And this year the NLCS started first. Notably, they have in some years set an alternate/early World Series schedule to use if both LCSes end in 5 or fewer games. But they scrapped it (probably because that scenario rarely ever happens).
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Gee maybe they should have started at 6
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Maybe they should play a double header tomorrow.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 17 Author Posted October 17 Tonight postponed. Game 4 Saturday 8 PM Game 5 Sunday 5 PM (replacing the travel day)
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Yay a supper time game! Centerfield 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18 Posted October 18 OK, now we're cooking with gas: down to a two-of-three for the right to go to the WS. Last game in Cleveland, then it's back to 'The Trop' (no days off) for the final two (or one). And there's a top matchup tonight with Drew Rasmussen vs Parker Messick, both of whom will get CY votes. whippoorwill 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18 Posted October 18 It's like Tampa Bay is just showing off at this point: they're pitching better (1 CLE hit thru 5), hitting better (11 hits, a SB, 2 walks), and playing great defense. And yet they're only up 3 - 0 and one wonders if that'll come back to haunt them later on. Lots of LOB plus a runner thrown out at home (good send, better throw/tag).

With the World Series not starting until Friday, it does seem kind of dumb to not provide the travel day off.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Eh, I kind of like the fact that there are (potentially) four games in a row. Quote And yet they're only up 3 - 0 and one wonders if that'll come back to haunt them later on. Lots of LOB plus a runner thrown out at home (good send, better throw/tag). The Guardians scored once and have had (at least) three different ABs where the tying run was at the plate in the last two innings (7th & 8th) but have yet to cash in yet. So we go to top-9
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 19 Posted October 19 So, we watched 18 innings of mind numbingly boring baseball over the weekend, except Yandy Diaz, who is on my regular season Fantasy team, but he must not have read my text that it’s time to go into a slump now because he’s playing against the team I’m rooting for. so tonight I’m going to bed as usual with my Tana French book and keeping track on my phone. Go Guardians!
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 DiComo had an article today about Freddy Peralta (starting tonight for Tampa) and his success there after switching teams. Citing “multiple members of New York’s hierarchy,” the adjustments that Peralta made in Tampa, “moving quicker down the mound to increase his fastball velocity, achieving a higher arm slot, using the upper third of the strike zone more liberally with his fastball, and relying more extensively on his changeup down in the zone -- are the same things the Mets asked him to do.” https://www.mlb.com/news/what-went-wrong-during-freddy-peralta-s-mets-tenure
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Maybe it was a case of a new voice on a winning team The Rays seem to have established a just high reputation for retooling pichers Freddy took the apple from the Rays I guess I'm rooting for the Rays, what's left of wifey's family has lived in St Petersburg for a time and gone to games I was told the tickets and beer are cheap and there is no one around to bother you
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 Peralta’s going to be ALCS MVP, isn’t he?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 20 Posted October 20 7-3 Rays. Bottom 8. Yandy Diaz curtain call.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 Milwaukee-Tampa is a great matchup on so many levels -Best team from each league -Enjoyable and easy-to-root-for teams -Someone wins the WS for the first time ever -Big ol’ middle finger to Manfred and the owners pushing the b.s. that smaller market teams can’t compete and win
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 20 Posted October 20 And it’s not like some weird fluke. The Rays have made the playoffs 6 of the last 8 years. The Brewers have done it 8 of the last 9. The Mets can only dream of such success.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 20 Posted October 20 I was curious to see Tampa wore "Devil Rays" uniform last night, are they not the Tampa Bay Rays ?

whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted Monday at 09:38 PM Posted Monday at 09:38 PM Talked to my son about this yesterday. He's been a Cleveland fan since he could read. He commented that Cleveland just hasn't got the pitching to go the distance in the long run. I was thinking, yeah nobody does.... Then I thought of 1986 when the Mets had so much pitching that SID FERNANDEZ was actually in the bullpen for the postseason. Subsequent interviews with Sid, he very diplomatic...oh it didn;t matter but I'm sure he was livid. I know I was. I adored Sid! Can you imagine though! That much pitching? Wow. And they were all 8 innings guys. I hope some of you see this before it's put in the archives, just because it's a good 1986 memory and I hope I give you all some happiness with it. Please Brock if you see this, leave i t for a day or two....
