Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Game 1 tees off on Saturday 10/3 at 6:30 EDT on TBS Certainly now a bad year for the recently-turned 36 y/o Gerritt Cole -- 22 starts, 3.61 ERA, 1.10 WHIP coming off UCL surgery which killed all of 2025 and the early part of '26 for him even if below his last full season in '24 when he won the AL CY -- so he'll toe the slab for NYY Rays counter with 31 y/o righty Drew Rasmussen who's now turned in back-to-back terrific seasons for TBR including leading the AL this year in both WHIP (0.913) and K/BB ratio (5.44) with 174 to 32 over 30 starts/172 IP Regular season record: TBR (98 wins) 7 -- NYY (93) 6
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 2 Posted October 2 I can’t believe I have to root for Cedric Mullins again.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 Yeah, it's not like Mullins 'found it' since leaving the Mets: .205/.284/.344 // 628 in 2026 And you can partially get away with that kind of line (the slug rate is decent) if you're also a dominant defensive CF but, even IF he was that at one time, those days are pretty much behind him now.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3 Posted October 3 And yet, you can ALSO get away with that if everyone else around you can hit, and that is the case this year for his team.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 Rays are 8th in MLB in OPS and 12 in RS/G, both above average obviously but also not like they couldn't use an improvement in CF. I mean, it's not so much that he's on a team so much as it's that he started 3/4 of the time on a good club, played a CG in most of those and was switched into a game late in another 15, amassing 500+ PAs for the season.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 And after all that, Mullins is Not starting tonight. Oooooh, help me Aranda!!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 End of 7 innings, 1 - 0 Rays, TBR starter Drew Rasmussen: 7 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 94 pitches. Is coming out for the 8th
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Omg. What was he thinking. Out by a mile.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 WOW!!!! Austin Wells breaks up the no-hitter with a liner into the RF corner w/2 outs in the 8th ... AND GETS THROWN OUT TRYING FOR 3rd!!!!!!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Rays going to turn the 9th inning over to their closer Bryan Baker and his 1.44 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP And his first batter faced is PH Giancarlo Stanton looking to tie it up with one swing.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Stanton, is his first AB since APRIL!!!!, K's swinging for out #1 Top of the order now with Ben Rice ... who Ks looking!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Bellinger: Ball (ABS reversal), called strike, Ball (Unsuccessful ABS challenge by TBR), GROUND OUT TO 1B!!! ONE - ZIP Rays is your final.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Good to see Stanton back. Really wanted him to get close to 500 home runs this year. Maybe next year.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 After games like this I think back to all the non-baseball fans I've heard over the years who insist that low scoring baseball games are boring. They think it's boring because they think 7 - 0 (or 3 - 0) football games are boring.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Last pitcher to shut out the Yanx 1 - 0 in the 'post-season'? ... Don F. Drysdale in 1963. The 'Twin D' (as Howard Cosell used to call him) shut out was (not surprisingly) a CG as he out-dueled Jim Bouton. Don't want to say it's been a while but Drysdale's been dead for 33 years.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Game 7 of the 1991 WS found me at a friend's house where I was constantly out-voted by the crowd there who insisted on watching the Sunday Night Football game. IIRC most there were more enthralled by Chris Berman's half-time highlight show than by the game itself but that's a separate story. I'd occasionally get the channel briefly changed over baseball where the room would see the score and declare, 'See, you're not missing anything' and immediately change back. I did eventually manage to see the ending but I vowed then never to put myself in that situation again. And I haven't.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I watched this game , good stuff , wow Wells really fucked up, out by a lot as noted above , a good look here, i get pushing it but your not Trae Turner
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Only with one out there could 'pushing it' be considered a good move there no matter who you are. and, even then, you've got a great arm in RF (Wells may not have known that but the coaches sh/would have) on top of a slow-footed catcher. The 3B coach did put out the stop sign but Wells admitted to not seeing it until after being "already committed". Nice retrieval and throw from RF which gave the relay man time to make an accurate throw without rushing it because it certainly wasn't Trae Turner running. That wound up being the last pitch Rasmussen would throw but the closer was spot-on too so no damage. Now this gives Rasmussen time to recover for a potential Game Four or Five which, because of extra off-days in this series [Sunday / Tuesday / Friday], wouldn't be until Thursday or Saturday so the Yanx have that hanging over their heads going forward. Both AL series have Sunday off
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 4 Posted October 4 He was so out that Caminero seemed serious concerned that Wells hurt himself by plowing his face into the waiting tag.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 Freddie Peralta gets the start today vs Yanx and Cam Schlittler. Off to a good start: 1 - 2 - 3 on 8 pitches in top 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 Yanx respond with a Three* Error (almost four) bottom of the 1st but the result is just one run. * McMahon, Chisholm, catcher's interference, and then nearly Chisholm again
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Posted October 6 How does he not score on that wild pitch
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Whoa the eyebrows on this sideline reporter ...looks like caterpillars got er
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I don’t like how they’re wasting opportunities. not a good sign.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Posted October 6 The crack Yankees defense is on crack 2024 World Series style
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 And the Rays chase Schlittler after 4-1/3. Not all of it was his fault, but still: 3 R (2 ER), 7 hits, plus 2 BB
