Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 12:04 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:04 AM Back to night games for the final two of this series although note that Tuesday and Wednesday will both be at a 6:40 start So we hit one nemesis hard on Monday in Eury Pérez, now we go for two in a row as Sanday Alcantara takes the hill opposite Sean Manaea. The Marlins are playing every game hard and working their staff hard as they're still on the fringes of a WC slot. Currently they're 5th in a field of three but lost ground to both PHI & SDP with the loss on Monday. A sweep here would really damage their chances ... plus It would be nice if the Mets could ruin their post-season plans for a change, eh?

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 07:28 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:28 PM So I clicked through the rest of the season on https://playoffpredictors.com/, and there DOES exist a scenario where we're as high as the four seed. Does it require a LOT of things to go right, including us going 18-0, the AL winning every interleague game (except ours), and the Phillies finishing their season 0-18, among other improbable things? Well, of course. But ya gotta believe and all that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Tuesday at 07:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:51 PM Gotta take care of the part within our control and root our team to glorious victory over the Miamis.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Tuesday at 11:18 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:18 PM Holy shit! Tuning in, like, two seconds late, and it's 5-0!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 11:20 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:20 PM Manaea thru 2 innings: 0 runs / 20 pitches Alcantara thru 2 innings: 5 runs / 50 pitches
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Tuesday at 11:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:29 PM Gosh, they brought their gloves and arms (or one arm at least) tonight too.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 12:13 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:13 AM And a little dork is the first hit off Manaea. Gary had studiously avoided using the word 'no-hitter'. But now the wheels seem to falling off a bit for Sean.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 12:20 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 12:20 AM What Gary failed to mention when he referenced the other two times a Met pitcher this year had gone perfect through five innings (McLean both times) was that we only won one of those two games. Mets had a 3-0 lead after five vs Minnesota on 4/21 but McLean couldn't finish the 6th either and the Mets lost 5 - 3. Mets beat the Giants 10 - 3 in the other game in early April.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 12:29 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:29 AM If Baty hadn't been playing in ... .
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 12:32 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:32 AM Ya know, after rackytacking Alcantara for 7 runs, they better not lose this game. Opportunities like that don't come along very often.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 12:37 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:37 AM And after bursting the Alcantara bubble, let's not make a Cy Young candidate out of (checks notes) Dax Fulton.

Too late. Fulton is currently the presumptive NL front-runner. based on the last three innings.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 12:58 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:58 AM I'm enjoying Kloser Kodai, but I'd sure like to see Duarte or Dedniel or the like get a ninth too. Marrying oneself to a single save guy is a plague.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 01:08 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:08 AM Morabitititito replacing Bichette on the basepaths takes him out of play as a defensive replacement for Soto in the ninth. Maybe Pachework gets that call.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 01:10 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:10 AM It appears Soto can track down a deep fly on his own.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 01:12 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:12 AM And if Senga gets through this inning unscathed, he gets his ERA under seven.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 01:15 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:15 AM Well, that run's on me.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 01:21 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 01:21 AM That game was much more interesting than it needed to be.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 01:22 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:22 AM That was interesting
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 01:30 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:30 AM Nats, Reds, and Cards are all the west coast, so it'll be while before we learn if the Mets gain on any of them, and the Pirates are winning big, but hey, they sure gain on the Marlins. D-Backs, current owners of the last wild card slot, are scoreless in the seventh against Kansas City.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 01:50 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:50 AM Watching the post game interview it seems like Sean Manaea has no idea why he pitches well, and equally no idea why things go bad.
