Trying to carve a home for himself in the MAGAsphere, but no longer a big enough name that an operative is just going to carve it out for him.

But if you don't watch out — and if you don't find it in your heart to give him the love and relevance he misses — he's going to smack you in the side of the head with a book/podcast/reality show or the like about how communists, Muslims, blue hairs, and trans athletes are destroying everything that was once good.

I just read the whole thing.  This is exactly right.  Especially the part about the hopes of a comeback.

This poor guy felt like nothing his whole life, then his arm gave him his identity.  And just like this his arm is gone, and his identity with it.

The lure of MAGA is alluring for guys like Noah.  Deep down, I'm sure he's a good guy.  Just lost.

And then be shocked that the President whose hat he wears had said such things.

I guess the moral is that it can be very lonely and boring being independently wealthy and single in your early 30s.  His identity and self worth was tied to his ability as an athlete.  Once that was (is) gone, he finds himself desperately seeking something to give him identity. 

A little sad, but not that unheard of in the sports world.  Many former jocks have a difficult time once the fame and adulation fades.

Meanwhile, Syndergaard himself has called the New York City mayor a "lunatic," got behind the idea that the mayor "cursed" the Mets by hugging Mr. and Mrs. Met, and falsely claimed the mayor had never held a job before being elected to City Hall.  And there he is in the article, getting on board the totally partisan hate campaign against Dr. Fauci.

So, if you want to get behind the idea that it is wrong to make trashy claims on someone because they have differing political views, Noah Syndergaard is one place to start.
