This team is hopeless.  They just find ways to lose.  For all the off season talk of improving run prevention, the Mets defense and pitching has been pretty poor.

But part of the reason the Mets are so terrible is the inability to convert that free baserunner.

The Mets are 8-7 in extra inning games this year, and have played 19 extra innings.  They’ve scored the free runner 11 times.  In 6 innings, they scored additional non-free runners.

Nothing about that jumps out immediately as awful (although I don’t have handy the league average stats).

Obviously the extra innings record is substantially better than the overall W/L record.
