Baty seems to have turned a corner.

Either that, or he was this good all along and needed a little playing time to show his ability.

No, Baty wasn't as good all along as he's been over his last six games. He was fucking horseshit. Or maybe we have to wait on Baty until he turns 31. That's when Hank Sauer started to hit. I'll go with maybe Baty turned a corner. Emphasis on maybe.

Dark clouds had hung above the skies over Long Island this afternoon, but that did not deter us from heading out to Citi Field. Myself and four friends of mine had secured tickets a few months ago when they were on sale for $11 a seat. Coupled with the $5 hot dog/beer/soda promotion going on Tuesday nights--and the way the Mets have been playing recently--it seemed like a recipe for a great time at the park.

And it was! Our seats were in Sec. 129, just under the overhang so we didn't get wet. The food line wasn't too bad, and we secured some brews for all of us. Senga certainly didn't disappoint, although part of me wishes Mendoza kept him in longer. Nimmo was a crowd-pleaser, not only with his RBI double, but also with the glove again, as he made another great play off the bat of Joey Bart. Brandon Nimmo chants broke out, and he recognized our approvals.

I did get to see the Mascot Race, which I know is lame, but I didn't seem to mind. The Staten Island Ferry was the victor tonight. I did notice when they displayed the stats that the Bronx giraffe has yet to win a race, and I suspect this will be the running gag on this distraction.

Just before Brett Baty's at bat in the seventh, one of my friends declared, "I'm feeling optimistic about this at-bat." I told him I didn't share his optimism. No sooner did those words leave my mouth did Baty slam the ball into the gate atop the left field wall. I screamed to my friend, "I'm never doubting your optimism again!"

There were some worrisome events in the ninth again, but it was good to see Diaz come back and close the door on a close one.

We had to wait for one of my friends to use the restroom, so we left the yard a bit later than normal. But something happened that never happened to me before--I was the last car out of the parking lot from my exit. I saw the attendants close the gates behind me. I guess our timing was good!

There was not a lot of offense, but plenty of action to appreciate this evening in Queens.

Vientos's glove needs to be benched.

I missed this during the game but caught the replay this morning. How does he not switch out his glove? The ball went right through it !

He had the pocket of his glove "tightened up" after that inning and then went right back out with the same one.

The glove itself is kind of an odd choice as infielders tend to use solid pocket gloves, both to avoid what happened there but also so you don't snag a finger in one of the holes when reaching in for the ball causing a double clutch. The mesh-type pockets were most often used by outfielders so they can use them to shield the sun while peaking through the mesh for the ball.

Lindor had the worst game I've seen from him in a long time.

K'd on 3 pitches, 4 pitches, 3 pitches (all swinging) then finished with a GO.

And that whole 9th inning error thing, so yeah.

It was not a game up to his standards or to the standards of the Mets.

No shit?

Called the Baty shot.

Actually, he's come up with a great all-purpose response to any reporter's question after a terrible game.

"Edwin, tell us what was happening with the nine straight balls you threw and walking in the tying and winning runs..."

"That wasn't up to my standards and the standards of the Mets organization."

Brilliant, in its way.

Called the Baty career.
