So is asking for a 'Crew Chief Review' restricted to certain innings?

Staring the 8th inning, a crew chief has discretion to conduct a review of any reviewable call either on his own initiative or at the request of a manager who has no challenges.

The crew chief can initiate their own review of a home run/not a home run call at any time during the game.

Not the worst series of the year just because it was the first losing series of the year but because they played like shit the entire series.

Not that there wasn't also some bad baseball in most of the series they've won this year.

The box score I saw says the winning run wasn't an earned run.

I don't see an error or PB in the box score.

What happened?

Something to do with the runner on second rule?

The Ghost runner scoring is never charged as an earned run to the pitcher.

HE didn't put him on 2nd, Rob Manfred did.

Manfred should be charged with more than just those ghost runs for what he's done to the game.

Hate the ghost runner. Even when it helps the Mets win I hate it. It's so phony and arbitrary. Why not have a ghost runner every inning? Maybe add a fifth base?

Agree 100% with this sentiment. I used to love the occasional 16- or 18-inning games. There was something odd and quirky about it, like NHL playoff games that run 5OTs or such.

They'll never go back but it would be so much more palatable if they only instituted it after 12 innings. Sort of like how hockey gives up on settling a tie with a short period before going to the skills competition.

Also, we don't like it but the way the game is played has changed to the point where pitching cannot absorb the wear and tear of a long season. Pitchers train too much and throw too hard and have too many elbow injuries to have sufficient durability to go 9 innings much less 10.

Also Bader-Siri wasn't a financial decision

First back to back losses this season. Had to happen eventually I guess.

Much like the road trip that started the season the Mets went 3-3. So if you're splitting series on the road and winning them at home then you're in good shape.

First place Mets come home today for 7 games against STL (four) and then Philly (3). I'd like to see them win both series and go 5-2 here.

I'd even take a compromise where the ghost runner was used starting in the 11th inning. I mean, have one sane, normal extra inning before you get to the stupid Manfred-ness of life.

Yeah. There was a mini-discussion here last week as to whether the permanent ghost runner was a GM-driven plan ['We can't keep churning through pitchers like this']

or an owner-driven one [don't want to pay the stadium staff overtime].

Certainly both can be true.

I do not particularly get calling up a starting pitcher, holding him off until the second inning, and still using him for only 50 pitches.
