Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 (edited) The Mets, somehow crossing off all their interleague matchups early in the season, play for the first time in their history in the Indomitable City, aka The City of Trees — the suddenly major-league city that is Sacramento. The city that launched The Cramps, Daniel Johnston, and Molly Ringwald; the city somehow simultaneously responsible for the Unholy Trinity of Stains on American Culture that is Morton Downey, Jr., Rush Limbaugh, and Lee Greenwood; the setting of Lady Bird, Step-Brothers, and Eight Is Enough; is now, against all probability, somehow playing host to a rematch of the 1973 World Series.Strange times.Griffin Canning, whose Metness you are probably still adjusting to, leads the attack, while The One and Only JP Sears defends for the A's. JP, you may recall, throws with his left hand, so look for Tyrone Taylor and Luisangel Acuña to be deployed by the visitors. Also, make some time for the sonorous tones of Ron Darling as he poetically recalls his time as an Athletic, in the whitest of home whites, with shoes so spectacularly white that they incorporate them into the logo.[FIMG=382]https://www.newsday.com/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.newsday.com%2Fimage-service%2Fversion%2Fc%3ANGFjZmI4MzYtNjk0Ny00%3ANDc3ZDhmMTktMmMyMS00%2Fmets-astros-baseball.jpeg%3Ff%3DLandscape%2B16%253A9%26w%3D770%26q%3D1&w=828&q=80[/FIMG] [FIMG=318]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/08/JP-Sears.jpg?resize=1024,693&quality=75&strip=all[/FIMG] Edited April 11, 2025 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 WFAN's Steve Somers would always refer to this city as Sacratomato.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 Unpredictable things happen when Minor League cities suddenly become major league cities. I'm pretty sure the A's are going to win the World Series this year.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 The 10 PM start which sucks. But at least the only game of the 3 against this team that starts so late. I also have a gig that will run until 9 and can catch part of this game as I'm driving home tonight. So there's that at least.

Maybe there's a "jetstream" blowing toward the outfield, like in the old SF Seals Stadium.Or, lousy pitching.Later
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 The Cramps and Molly Ringwald belong in the same city

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 I was hoping this would be a fun quirky minor league stadium but it seems to be pretty inert
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 Something's wrong with the centerfield camera too, it's like there's a pink filter on it for every shot on SNY.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 Brandon Nimmo — Mets all-time leader in home runs hit in Sacramento.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 That is one quick bat Acoonie has.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 Ball definitely seeming to jump off the bat.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 I've twice fallen asleep on the couch. Not sure I'm gonna survive this one
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 Lawrence Butler looks like a player.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 It's got that spring training atmosphere where you can clearly hear every half-drunk crank heckler trying to get his sick burns in on the players.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 Canning has a strange delivery.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 Soderstrom came within the laces of Siri's glove of turning this game around.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 José Siri, walking superstar.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 This ump is doing a very squeezy job, and the Mets are going to break through with these walks happening.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2025 Author Posted April 11, 2025 And Marling Starte breaks through.
